Cain sat in his dim living room, the flickering light of the midday news painting the walls. The headline crawled across the screen: “Alucard Indicted. Senator Cole Survives Attack.” He nursed a chipped mug of tea, his eyes squinting slightly against the television's glare. On the screen, Alucard was stumbling through a mob of photographers, the flashes of their cameras creating a blinding storm with each rapid click. You could see the panic starting to set in on the Don's face, a new layer of worry etched onto his features. A dark stain bloomed on the cuff of his expensive suit where Senator Cole's bullet had grazed him. Cain hit pause, and the screen froze on the Alucards' sneering face. Across the room, Elara exhaled sharply. She’d just walked in, energy crackling around her.
