Kaelin sensed it was coming before it actually happened.
She had this buzzing feeling under her skin. It was like a heat that made all the hairs on her body stand up straight.
She was deep in the forest now from the clearing. She was trying to breathe, trying to calm down her wolf and trying to hold herself.. It felt like that was impossible.
Her silver eyes glowed a little as she stumbled through the underbrush. Every snap of a twig sounded like a noise. Every sound the leaves made, made her scared. Her heart was beating fast; it felt like it might jump out of her chest. She could feel her wolf inside her coiled like a predator to pounce.
“Calm down, " she whispered to herself. Her voice was shaking. "It’s me… just me.”
It wasn’t just her. It had never been her.
It started as a shiver in her spine. Just a tiny movement beneath her skin. Her claws dug into the earth without her thinking about it. Her nails scraped through moss and soil. The world got a little blurry for a moment as silver light shimmered along her fur. It was brighter and hotter than anything she had ever felt before.
Then came the loud roar.
Her wolf screamed inside her. It was sharp and wild. Kaelin’s muscles tensed up tightly. She could feel her bones changing, reforming. Her senses became a lot sharper. The forest around her blew into chaos. Birds flew away, smaller animals ran off and the air was thick with energy.
She screamed. It wasn’t just fear. It was also release. All the pain, anger and heartbreak boiled up into one surge.
Her transformation had started.
When the first scream left her lips she didn’t even recognize the sound. It was guttural and primal. It vibrated through the forest. Made the trees shake. Her claws came out on their own. Silver light glinted along their edges. Her teeth got sharper like daggers. Her muscles rippled beneath her fur as her body changed. She wasn’t human or wolf. She was something in between. A Silver Wolf. She was raw and terrifying.
Kaelin was struggling to catch her breath. Her eyes glowed silver in the moonlight. Her pupils were dilated with fury. Her wolf howled inside her. It was a chorus of power and rage. It was testing the limits of her body, the pack and the world.
Then she saw them.
The pack.
She had come close to the clearing. The pack had noticed she was gone. A few younger wolves came to find her. When they saw her form the Silver Wolf fully awake they froze. Fear hit their faces away.
“Kaelin… stop!" someone yelled.
She couldn’t.
Her wolf had no room for "stop." Every instinct screamed for survival, dominance and release. She lunged forward without meaning to. Her claws slashed through the underbrush. A younger wolf yelped as Kaelin’s paw hit him across the shoulder. He stumbled backward. His fur was singed a little from the energy around her body.
“Oh my god… Kaelin!" another wolf cried.. Even as they tried to approach she flinched instinctively. Every move she made was amplified by her wolf’s strength. Trees shattered beneath her claws as she spun. Every fiber of her being trembled with power she couldn’t control.
Lucian arrived a little later. He was drawn by the commotion. The moment he entered the area he froze in his tracks. His golden eyes widened a bit at the scene in front of him. Kaelin was fully transformed. Her silver fur shimmered. Her claws were out. Her eyes blazed with instinct. The air around her crackled with energy.
“Kaelin… what have you done?" he barked. His voice was firm but panicked.
Her wolf growled at him instinctively. It was a warning, a challenge and a plea for recognition. Her heart thudded painfully in her chest.. Her body moved with the wolf’s force. She had no control. No choice. Only instinct.
“I… I…" Kaelin tried to speak.. Words failed her. Her claws swung sideways. They barely missed a pack member who had frozen in fear. Another wolf yelped as a swipe of silver light tore through the underbrush.
Lucian’s jaw tightened. He took a step forward. His wolf coiled inside him. His senses bristled. "Kaelin! You must stop! Control it!”
She heard him. She wanted to stop. Her human mind screamed for control.. Her wolf was stronger. It wanted freedom and power.
Then came the first real injury.
Kaelin’s paw swiped close. A younger wolf howled as his shoulder was grazed by her claws. Blood spattered. It was shocking and red against the moss. Kaelin froze. Horror flooded her. She hadn’t meant to hurt anyone. She hadn’t wanted this.. Her wolf had acted before she could think.
The pack scattered. They were terrified and in amazed. Even Lucian’s calm composure cracked under the pressure. "Kaelin… you are hurting them! Stop this now!”
Her wolf coiled tighter inside her chest. It howled in frustration and fear. Every nerve burned with power she couldn’t contain. Her silver fur bristled. Every muscle twitched. Her vision sharpened to a clarity. She could see the blood on the moss. She could smell the fear in the air. She could hear every heartbeat, every whisper and every rustle.
She wanted to cry. She wanted to run. She wanted to make it stop.. She couldn’t.
The forest erupted into chaos. Branches shattered as Kaelin leaped and twisted. Her wolf instincts drove every move. Pack members tried to approach.. Even the Alpha couldn’t get close without risk. Lucian’s wolf growled in response. It was protective, frustrated and desperate.
“Kaelin!" he shouted. His voice broke a little. "I am Alpha! You will listen to me!”
The words cut through her fog.. Her wolf only snarled in response. Kaelin felt the surge of power spike even higher. Trees splintered as she lunged sideways. The forest trembled beneath her claws. The moonlight caught her fur. Silver glinted in every direction. She looked like a storm made flesh.
Her wolf howled. Its voice layered over her scream. It shook the air.
Then just as suddenly as it began it stopped.
Kaelin collapsed onto all fours. She was gasping. Her silver eyes dimmed a little. Her wolf recoiled. It. Rested.. It was still present and still dangerous. Around her the pack lay scattered. Some were frozen in fear. Some were injured. Some had eyes in awe.
Lucian knelt in front of her. His golden eyes were wide. There was a mix of shock, panic and something darker. Fear or jealousy. She didn’t know. "Kaelin… are you hurt?" he asked softly.
“I… I’m fine " she whispered. Her voice was hoarse. Her body trembled. "I… I didn’t mean… I couldn’t stop it.”
“You could have, " he said quietly. His jaw was tight. "You have to learn control… ”
Her wolf bristled at his words. It curled inside her chest. A low growl vibrated. Control… you said that before. Look what it did to me.
The elders arrived. The forest was quiet again. The pack was wary and shaken. Kaelin stood up. Her silver fur glinted faintly. Her wolf coiled beneath her skin. It was tense and restless. The realization hit her. She was not just dangerous… She was untamed. Unpredictable.
The elders spoke softly among themselves. They cast glances at Lucian and then at Kaelin. "This… cannot continue " one murmured. "She must leave the pack temporarily. For everyone’s safety.”
Kaelin’s chest tightened. She felt abandoned, humiliated and furious. She wanted to scream, to fight, to throw herself at Lucian to demand that he see her as more than a danger. Her wolf roared in agreement. Muscles coiled. Claws flexed. Tail lashed.
She looked at Lucian. His golden eyes met her. His face betrayed nothing.. His wolf stirred. It was alert, tense and protective. He fears me now, she thought. Anger and heartbreak twisted together in a knot.
Kaelin. Fled into the depths of the forest. Her silver fur blended with the moonlight. Her wolf surged with power. It stretched, tested and celebrated the freedom of strength.. Her human mind remained heavy with betrayal, humiliation and a spark of something dangerous. Love that refused to die even as she fled.
The moon rose overhead. Kaelin’s silver eyes gleamed in its light. The forest seemed alive with whispers. Shadows stretched. The air was thick with anticipation. Her wolf growled low. It. Flexed. It was powerful and wild.
She was alone. Untamed. Dangerous.
Somewhere in the darkness something older than the pack watched. It was patient, hungry and waiting.
