The forest was really quiet after all the chaos. Kaelin was hiding among the ferns, her silver fur shining a bit under the faint moonlight. Every part of her body ached her, not just because she had changed into a wolf but because of all the strong emotions that were still circling inside her. She felt scared, angry, sad and really lonely all at the time. These feelings were all mixed up inside her chest.
Kaelin had hurt her pack, the wolves she had grown up with her friends and family. She had promised to protect the ones but they got hurt when she first changed into a wolf. She could still see blood around her, the fear in their eyes and the sounds of horror they made. Her wolf was very restless, its muscles moving and its claws scratching the ground as if it was testing its limits Kaelin did not understand yet.
"I did not mean to hurt them, " She said softly, her voice beginning to shake. "I did not mean to lose control."
The wolf inside Kaelin did not care about apologies. It only knew about the power it felt, the energy that surged through Kaelin's bones and the freedom of changing into a wolf. Now everyone is scared of Kaelin.
Back at the clearing the pack had gathered around the fire talking quietly. Their eyes kept looking at Lucian, their leader. Even Lucian looked unsure, caught between being the leader and feeling something complicated that he could not explain to anyone.
"He is worried about Kaelin, " Mira said softly to one of the wolves.
"Worried?" the other wolf whispered back eyes with fear. "Kaelin almost destroyed half of the clearing. She hurt her pack."
You could feel the tension. Wolves rarely lost control. A fully awakened Silver Wolf like Kaelin was almost unheard of. People were talking about it, some were scared of Kaelin and some were amazed by her power.
Then there was Lucian. Lucian stood alone, his jaw clenched. He looked around carefully. His eyes checked every spot and every bit of movement. He kept glancing at the forest edge where Kaelin had gone.
"She is dangerous, " one of the wolves said. "She cannot stay with us if she cannot control herself."
Lucian's eyes narrowed. "I know, " he said quietly to himself. But the truth was bothering him, he should have protected Kaelin, he should have guided her, he should have done something to help her.
Kaelin walked carefully through the forest. Her senses were really sharp. Every little sound, every twig that snapped, every howl from another wolf made her heart beat faster. Her wolf was moving inside her chest, its muscles flexing, its tail moving with energy. Kaelin had tasted freedom. It was raw and terrifying. Now she was scared of herself more than anything
Kaelin sat beside a stream, her silver eyes catching the moonlight. The water was moving, reflecting her expression: a mix of surprise, fear and lingering anger. She flexed her claws watching the silver glow along the edges. Kaelin thought, "I am not just Kaelin anymore... I am the Silver Wolf.. I will not be controlled.... I also cannot hurt anyone else."
Meanwhile back at the clearing Lucian was pacing. Every part of him wanted to find Kaelin, make sure she was safe and protect her from herself. But the pack elders had made it clear: Kaelin could not stay with the pack until she learned to control her power. Their fear was the same as Lucians. Lucians guilt was heavier.
Lucian remembered the words of the leader whispered only to him: "There is a prophecy, Lucian. The Silver Wolf is a rare legendary event. She may be the key to the pack's survival... Or its downfall."
Lucian had dismissed it at the time. Now he was not so sure. Kaelin was rare; she was powerful. Lucian may have pushed her into this.
Kaelin spent the night walking through the forest trying to balance her hunting instincts with the need to calm herself down. Every animal she passed every scent in the air made her really aware. She could feel how hungry the wolf inside her was, its curiosity, its need to explore, to dominate, to protect.
She did not let it take over. Not fully. Kaelin sat by a fallen log. Tried to breathe trying to steady the energy inside her. Her mind kept going to Lucian, the coldness in his golden eyes, the words he had said, the rejection that had sparked this storm inside her.
Lucian is scared of me, she thought.. Yet... I still love him. Her wolf growled low in her chest uncomfortable with the vulnerability. Focus. Survive. Learn control. That is all that matters now.
The morning brought little relief. The forest was calm. Kaelin's senses were still on high alert. She could smell the pack approaching even before she saw them. Lucian was at the front moving carefully, his gaze sharp searching.
"Kaelin " he called not moving too quickly giving her space. "You need to come. You cannot stay here alone."
"I... I cannot " she said, her voice low, her silver eyes flashing. "I could hurt someone... I can't control it"
Lucian's jaw tightened, his wolf stirring inside him. "Then you must learn.. Not here, not like this. I..." He stopped, realizing his words sounded more like a plea than an order.
Kaelin looked at Lucian reading the tension, the conflict, the unspoken feelings lurking beneath his mask. She wanted to scream at him to demand he had acknowledged what he had done and what he caused.. She stayed silent letting the wolf's restraint guide herself, resisting the urge to lash out.
The pack elders arrived, moving with precision. Their eyes were wary. There was something else there: curiosity, perhaps awe. "Kaelin " one said, voice steady but carrying weight "you must leave the pack for now. Until you can control this power... You cannot stay."
The words hurt Kaelin like a blow. She felt the wolf surge, claws flexing, teeth bared in protest.. She did not strike. She lowered her head, silver eyes reflecting the sunlight filtering through the trees.
"I... I understand " she whispered, though every word burned her pride. "I will leave.... Only until I am strong enough. Only until I can protect everyone."
Lucian stepped forward, his golden eyes softening for a moment. "Kaelin... I..."
She shook her head, cutting him off mid sentence. "Do not. Not yet. I need to do this."
Her wolf growled in agreement, muscles coiling, tail lashing. The first step of exile had begun.
Kaelin left the pack quietly but tensely. The pack members watched her go into the forest, fear and awe flickering in their eyes. Lucian followed her for a distance, his wolf coiled senses stretched, golden eyes never leaving Kaelin's silver form.
She is stronger than I thought he admitted inwardly a pang of jealousy cutting deep.. I was the one who rejected her...
Kaelin moved with purpose even as exhaustion began to weigh on her. Every step, every breath was a test of control. She had survived the uncontrolled shift but she knew it would not be the last. The wolf inside her had tasted freedom. It will not forget.
As she moved deeper into the forest a chill wind blew through the trees. Shadows seemed to move around her. Kaelin could feel something watching. Not human. Not the pack.
Her silver eyes narrowed. "Show yourself " she whispered.... Nothing came. Claws flexing, muscles coiled. The forest answered with silence... Movement.
Something moved in the darkness, patient, deliberate, ancient. Kaelin's wolf bristled, low growl vibrating. Her heartbeat thundered in her chest.
This is the beginning she thought. I am the Silver Wolf.... My time is coming.
