The Alpha stepped out of the walk-in wardrobe and returned with a belt in his hand. He looked around as saw that Kiona had jumped off the bed and was running towards the door that led out onto the balcony. He strode towards her and pulled her by the hair. Kiona screamed as he dragged her back onto the bed, and he lay her down face-down with her legs hanging over the edge. Kiona flailed and kicked like a wild animal and the Alpha responded by holding her down by the neck forcing her to submit. There was a minute’s silence while the pair of them tried to catch their breath back, when the Alpha spoke.
"You have been a very bad little girl," he growled. "Your escape attempt wasted both mine and my warriors' valuable time. Let me explain the rules here. I am the Alpha. I am the one in charge. You belong to me. You must always obey me, or you will get punished. Do you understand?"
Kiona lay there in silence, refusing to acknowledge him.
"Do you understand?" he asked again, tightening his grip.
Kiona nodded.
"Ok," he said more gently. "More rules. You belong to me, so you have to live here with me. If you behave, I will treat you well. If you escape, I will hunt you down and you will be punished. If you misbehave, you will be punished. Do you understand?"
Kiona was too angry to reply to him, even her parents never disciplined her like this.
"DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" he roared.
Kiona nodded.
"You will address me as Alpha when I speak to you. You will answer me with words. I do not like repeating myself. Do you understand?"
"Yes Alpha," Kiona murmured.
"I didn't hear you little girl."
"Yes Alpha."
"See? Now that wasn't so hard," his tone softened and he rolled her over, so she was now on her back, facing him. "I know this is a strange place to wake up in, and you must be in shock after everything that has happened. You must be hungry and thirsty too I imagine. If you behave, I will go and get you something to eat and then I will give you a tour of the pack house and some of the pack lands. How does that sound?" the Alpha asked gently, thinking this is much easier than he thought it would be.
"Up yours Alpha."
The Alpha stopped and thought for a second he may have misheard what Kiona said.
"What was that you said?" he asked dangerously.
"No, you heard me alright! UP YOURS ALPHA!" Kiona screamed.
Before he could stop and think, the Alpha roughly belted her across the face, and she was out cold.
A few hours later, Kiona woke up in a dimly lit room. She was lying on a thin sheet of material on a hard, stone floor. As her eyes adjusted to the low levels of light, she realised she was in a cell. There was a small window too high for her to reach that let in a small amount of light; she could tell it must be the middle of the day, so she had been knocked out for a few hours. As she cried thinking about her situation, her tears stung her cheeks and then she remembered that the Alpha had hit her with his belt before she passed out. She gently touched her cheeks and sharply pulled her hand way in shock when she could feel scabs from where she had been bleeding. At least she was alive and away from him she consoled herself. Kiona's stomach rumbled and she realised it must be quite some time since she last ate. She reached into her pockets and found some of the figs, plums and a slightly quashed pear that somehow managed to survive. She ate a little hoping to quell the hunger in her stomach, but in the end, she finished the figs and pear leaving the plums for later in case she wasn't going to get a meal anytime soon. She walked around her cell and realised there were a total of four in the room she was in. None of them appeared to be occupied at the moment. She gave the door to her cell a tug and confirmed that it was indeed locked. Apart from the window, the door and the thin sheet, her cell had a bucket and a small tap in the far corner which she hoped she would never have to use.
She lay back down on the thin sheet and thought about putting a plan together. She recalled all the spells that Esme had taught her. She had to master her elemental skills without anyone knowing. Perhaps she could use them to escape. Esme had given her a book with all the incantations but that was of no use to her here. She remembered two main things Esme told her to do. Firstly, to practise the basic incantations she had given her and secondly, and also more importantly, to meditate. Esme told her that whatever powers she had, they would be realised and strengthened by meditation. 'No time like now,' she thought. 'It's not as though I have a tonne of things going on right now.'
Kiona sat up straight and crossed her legs; she placed a hand on each knee and closed her eyes. Kiona's breathing began to slow down. Her breaths became deeper, slower and more controlled. She focused on the darkness around her and waited.
'A big fat nothing!' she thought to herself opening her eyes and punching her knees with her fists.
Just then the door to the room opened and three people stepped in and turned on the light. One of them was the Alpha who walked over to Kiona's cell and looked at her; his green eyes boring into her skull, the other man looked like he was a warrior from the way he was uniformed and built. The third looked to be a small mousy lady.
"Since you chose to be disobedient, you'll be punished," the Alpha announced, without a shred of emotion.
The warrior unlocked the door and they both stepped in. Kiona got to her feet as they both advanced towards her and started stepping backwards tracing the wall behind her with her fingers. When she got to the corner of cell she crouched down whimpering and curled up in ball putting her head down and her knees to her chest. There was nothing to protect her. The warrior lifted her up effortlessly and stood her up to face him holding her arms firmly and lifting them above her head. As she was so small, he placed his feet over Kiona's so she couldn't move. As her back was facing the Alpha and she couldn't see what he was doing, she tried to turn around or pull herself free but to no avail. The Alpha began to loosen the belt he was wearing and slid it off.
"No! NO! Please don't! Please don't!" Kiona screamed, struggling to free herself again, but the warrior remained still unaffected.
"You should have thought about that before you disobeyed me," replied the Alpha, taking his position behind her, clutching the buckle-less end in his hand.
When the belt hit Kiona for the first time, it was the worst thing she had ever felt. the pain radiated across her back and she felt the sting shortly after as the buckle scraped across her skin. She screamed as it cracked against her and her body slumped down, but the warrior held her up. The Alpha struck her again and again and she screamed in response; the lady waited outside the cell and by this point, had turned around as she couldn't bear to watch. By the tenth strike, the back of her dress had been shredded and her back was bleeding. Kiona couldn't stand up on her own anymore; the pain was too much. The Alpha ruthlessly struck her another five times by which point the pain was so much that when the warrior released her, she collapsed on the floor in a small heap. Kiona was barely conscious from all the pain throbbing through her body. She heard some footsteps approach her and saw the Alpha crouching beside her.
"Remember this the next time you think about disobeying me."
Kiona wanted to scratch his eyes out and completely rip his face to shreds but all she had the strength to do was whimper in response.
"Good. This cell will be your new home. If you behave, I might change my mind. You now also work with Cora here. You are an Omega. You will serve this pack like an Omega and you will be treated like an Omega. If you behave, I might let you attend school," commanded the Alpha.
The Alpha then turned to the Warrior who nodded in response. The Alpha calmly put his belt back on and strode out of cell issuing one final command to Cora.
"Clean up this mess!"
Cora whimpered in response and quickly set to work. She had mind-linked one of the pack doctors to come right away and while she waited, she took out some clothing that she brought for her new inductee. Although this was a far cry from how she thought they would be introduced, she was still her responsibility. 'She's so young,' thought Cora, as she examined the little girl and ran her fingers over her hair.
"The doctor is coming, I'm going to fetch some water and some towels," Cora told the warrior who stood guard, and scampered off.
By the time she returned she wasn't alone. The doctor was horrified at the state the little girl had been left in and examined her very carefully. In all his years as a doctor he had never seen anything like this. He had to cut open her dress to clean her wounds and then bandage them up. Kiona cried out a several times during the procedure and Cora did her best to reassure her that the doctor was being as gentle as he could. Cora took her head into her lap and stroked her hair trying to comfort her. Once the doctor had finished bandaging her up he gave Cora some antibiotics in case there was any infection that would slow the healing and some painkillers.
"I would like to visit her in a week’s time to see how she is healing," Doctor Townsend advised.
"Ok Doctor," Cora replied, with a nod.
With the warm water and towels, Cora cleaned Kiona gently and she dressed her up in the Omega uniform that she brought for her. It fit her lengthwise as Kiona was quite tall for her age but was far too big in certain places where a woman wearing it would have been more developed. Cora pinned it up in places to make it fit reassuring Kiona that she would get better fitting ones made for her. Once she was ready, Kiona looked complete transformed; almost normal.
"What's your name little dove?" Cora asked sweetly.
Kiona looked at her hesitantly.
"It's ok if you don't want to tell me, I will just call you little dove until you do," Cora reassured her.
"My name is Kiona," Kiona whispered.
"Kiona? That's a beautiful name."
"Th-Thank you. My friends call me Kio, but you can call me little dove," she whispered again.
"Ok little dove," Cora chuckled. "Well firstly, welcome to the pack. My name is Cora Taylor. You can call me Cora. I work in the pack house here in the kitchens and also as a cleaner. You'll be working with me, so I'll be teaching you everything ok?"
"Ok," Kiona replied, nodding.
"Would you like a hug Kio?"
Without answering, Kiona straightaway leaned into Cora and wrapped her little arms around her and for the first time in what felt like forever she finally felt a little safe.
