Chapter Eighteen: Jackson’s New Roommates

The day I was leaving for our away games, Cara and Bryce moved in. I showed Bryce around as this was the first time he had been at my place. I didn’t have to give Cara a tour as she already knew the layout, but I did show her the room adjacent from mine which would be hers and Bryce’s would be by the office. I made sure to go over the security system with Cara and Bryce, we had programmed a new series of codes for each of them so that the each had their own. It was now 1:30PM and I had to get going to the airport to meet with the team, I grabbed my bags and said my good-byes to Bryce and Cara.

I had made arrangements with the front desk about my new “roommates” and explained the situation about Cara and that they needed to keep an extra eye on random people showing up, making sure that they were watching all camera activity and giving them Andrew, Bryce and mine’s number in case someone randomly shows up with a package. They also implemented extra cyber security in case someone tried to tamper with the connection, it would notify Andrew’s company and they would dig to find the source.

All these security procedures were insane to just keep one person safe, but I knew deep down that all this needed to happen. There was something about Cara that intrigued me and attracted me to her. I wasn’t sure if anything would happen between her and I but something told me that there is a good possibility.

It had been years since I had to live with anyone, so this was going to be an adjustment, but lucky for me I would be away for the next 3 weeks. I just couldn’t wrap my head around all this s**t that was happening to Cara, like who the hell would want to harm such a beautiful, hard-working woman. Feelings I hadn’t felt in years are front and center and all I can do is work through them. But one thing I knew was that I was going to keep her safe and catch the people that are responsible for her turmoil. There was a part of me that was dying to know what had happened to Cara in her earlier years, especially when they said that their mother went to jail. I do hope that over time Cara could trust me with her story and I would share mine with her.

I had gotten to the airport at 2:00PM and made my way over to Jeff, I told him the Cara and Bryce showed up today and everything had been sorted out and he let out a huge sigh of relief. He looked at me said and said, “man I can’t thank you enough for letting my sister stay with you, this whole thing has been a s**t show and hopefully we find who is causing all these problems, I’d like my sister to be happy”. I could understand where he was coming from, as I had a younger brother. I responded with “No worries man, I am glad I could help and keep her safe, I have a younger brother that I would do anything for. But I am curious, what happened with your guys past that made your mom go to jai?”. Jeff looked at me and said, “I will let Cara tell you that story, it is hers to tell, not mine, but when she does, keep an open mind it is pretty dark”. All I could do was nod. Deep in my heart, I hopped that she would be safe.
