After my graduation party, I had landed seven contracts just from word of mouth. I was so excited to dig in and start.
These seven clients were all different, five were from my brothers hockey team, one was from friends of friends of the players, one I wasn’t sure where he came from but I would take it.
I had scheduled 2 clients for today, I had to go to their houses to see what kind of canvas I was working with.
I had brought my iPad with me to do the pictures and make the notes I need for each project. Ideally I like to get each project done within 6 weeks, so in reality 7 contracts 6 weeks each that would keep me busy for next 6 months or so as I’d like to do 3 clients at a time.
The first house was Joel & Amara’s place, they only wanted me to focus on the master bedroom, ensuite and a nursery for their daughter. I was on a strict time line for them cause she was due in 8 weeks.
The second house was Steve & Monroe’s place, this was Jeff’s coach and wife they wanted me to redo their kitchen into something like Jeff had, their entertainment room and make an outdoor oasis. The outdoor oasis I was excited for, this would be the second one I’ve done and it was my favourite.
After my second appointment I went back to my office to start designing. I was excited I hadn’t done a nursery before but I was willing to give it a shot. Stacy my receptionist was a god sent and she had a bit of interior design experience, she was trying to save money to go to school to become an interior designer and I couldn’t be more proud of her.
Stacy and I had become friends over the last few months. While I was in school she was running the business. Stacy was a beautiful woman, and super smart. We got along great, so she knew that I wouldn’t eat if I had multiple projects on the go. She went and bought us lunch and forced me to eat, and we talked about everything but work. This helps relax the mind and gives you that little break you need.
Before we went back into our work, she asked if I was planning on dating now that I was back. I looked at her and shook my head. Stacy you know I don’t date, I don’t have the time and after my past I don’t think anyone would want me. Don’t get me wrong I “casually” dated in university it was never anything serious just something for stress release if you will. Stacy put her head down and said Cara someone is going to come in your life, and repair all your broken parts in your heart and surprise you. Your past doesn’t define you and she walked away.
I thought about what she said, could someone love me? No they couldn’t I was too damaged.
