Kael flipped them-gently-so Mallory was on top. She braced her hands on his chest and moved, tears still streaming down her face, and Kael reached up to wipe them away. "I'm sorry," he said one more time. "I know," Mallory whispered. "I know you are." They came together-both of them crying, both of them holding onto each other like they were afraid to let go. Afterwards, they lay tangled in the ruins of their bed, breathing hard, neither of them speaking for a long time. Kael looked at her-really looked at her. At the woman who'd held him through nightmares. Who'd loved him when he was broken. Who'd stood by him through everything. "I don't know who I would save first if you and my brothers were drowning...It terrifies me that I don't have an answer to your question."
