"You believed me," Adam repeated, more firmly. "More than Alpha did. And I never got to thank you for that. For taking care of me when I was injured. For convincing Alpah that I wasn't the traitor." He smiled slightly, even though it pulled at the bruise forming on his throat. "So thank you. And for what it's worth—I don't hold anything against you for the torture. You were under orders. I would have done the same."
"Forgive me?" Onika scoffed "You're insane. You know that?
"Probably," Adam agreed cheerfully.
They stood in silence for a moment, the morning sun warming the balcony around them. From below, they could hear Doctor Owen calling out instructions, Annie's voice responding with questions and comments.
