Chapter 8 CHAPTER EIGHT

Dante tilted his head a little, pretending like he didn't hear the question for a moment. Alpha, impatiently called “Dante” Dante pretending to think “Uuhh — what am I gonna do? Oh, you think I'm just gonna rat you out to the council so they can drive a dagger into that cold heart of yours? Relax big brother. He said, slinging his towel over his shoulder. “Besides I like seeing your grumpy face at our never-ending — ritualistic —awkward family dinner table ” He rolled his eyes and exhaled “The question should be, what's your plan?” Alpha's face filled with both relief and frustration “Look, this is the first time I do not know what to do” he said clenching his jaw “The council will find out who she is sooner than later.” “For Lady Eden, that's a piece of cake." Dante said crossing his legs. Alpha's eyes rose. “How can this child possibly be the end of all supernatural beings? He scoffed. “That's insane — it's just a baby...” Dante cuts in “It's your baby that's why you would say this." He looked at Alpha for a long second — longer than usual — then shook his head with a crooked smile. “You really outdid yourself this time. All these years… all this curse nonsense, and you go ahead and make an apocalyptic baby? You always did like doing the impossible.” Alpha frowned. “Dante —” “I know,” Dante interrupted softly. “You’re scared so am I. Do I wanna die? Hell no! But if there's one thing a Zerok knows how to do, it's to protect its own. We'll fix this” he said in a low voice “more than anything, we fight — that's what we do.” Alpha paused for a moment, absorbed Dante’s little family sermon— “We'll fix this,” he repeated, nodding in a way that shows he's got all the answers now. “There has to be a way — a loophole to save the baby and everyone else.” “Damm right!” Dante added “You just got to find a way to bring Kael on board." Alpha rolled his eyes in exasperation, not sure if that was a good idea. Dante stood up and made his way towards the door, just before opening the door, he turned and looked at the Alpha “What did father use to say?” Alpha answered a bit hesitantly, “blood first — family always” “Always brother” Dante added assuredly and just like that he was gone leaving the Alpha to soak in on the little bromance they just had. Kael's house smells like money. The furniture and the couch looked almost too good to sit on. In the quiet magnificent master bedroom, Kael knelt between Mallory’s parted thighs, His strong hands gripped her thighs, spreading her open as his tongue pleased her slowly. Mallory’s breath came out in a low throaty moan. Her fingers running through his dark hair, pulling him closer, hips whining against his face. The soft light from the window touched Kael’s back. There were long scars there, like scratches and claw marks that never fully healed. They ran across his skin in thin, pale lines, showing where he had been hurt a long time ago. The scars trailed from his neck like they had their own story. When he moved, the scars stretched a little. “Oh sweetheart," eyes rolling faintly, "yes baby right there” Her voice cracked as he sucked her c**t gently, then harder, Her thighs shook, muscles tensing as the pleasure heightened. Seeing that she had an orgasm, he gave a satisfactory grin and then moved over to the empty side of the bed. For a brief moment, she lay there quietly soaked in pleasure. “Mmn… Kael, you always know how to devour me” she said slipping out of the bed, She picked her robe from the floor and threw it over her body. Kael tilted his head, a slight grin across his face that said he was proud of his bedroom skills. He watched as she walked barefoot across the room and settled on the seat opposite the vanity mirror. She pinned her hair up, ready to apply her night skincare routine— creams, oils, and all. “My love, don't you think you should be the one to deliver the vessel to the council? She continued to dab cream under her eye, “Come to think of it, it's a golden opportunity for you to step up.” His eyes caught her eyes in the vanity mirror. “Mallory, I feel the same way too, I've been pondering over it.” “I'm glad to hear that, it's time you stepped up, you can't stay in your brother's shadow forever.” Kael frowned but let out a small insecure laugh “I'm not in anyone's shadow” His face hardened with irritation. “You've been too quiet, too comfortable with just the mere title of being the Alpha's brother. You could be more.” Kael stood up, looking more troubled than ever, and he poured himself a glass of whisky sitting by the bedside. “I will find the vessel and I'll make the wolf protecting her pay dearly,” he said with a straight face and sat by the edge of the bed. “You really mean to find her, don’t you?” Mallory asked while she applied cream to her neck. “I have to. If I’m the one who brings in the vessel, they’ll finally see me as more than just his brother.” He said clenching his fist. Mallory put the cream down and turned slowly towards Kael, her tone soft, “Then stop waiting for luck, Kael. You’ve got to outsmart him” She stood, her robe flowing on the floor as she walked toward him. One hand over his shoulder, the other hand fingers trailed up his arm to caress his hairy chest slowly. “You will need friends…” Kael frowned. “Friends, you mean—?” “A witch, darling.” she smiled “Someone who can track her through a location spell. If a wolf is hiding her, you'll need back up. Kael snapped, “No!” he removed himself from her arms “Malory, do not bring up witches — you know how much I hate those manipulative creatures!" “I know Kael but we need one now,” she said softly. “No, we do not need a witch!” Malory leaned closer to him, “My love it's time you let go of the past.” Kael's voice rose sharply and bitterly “The past? —" " Malory, how do you move on from a past that still hunts you? — every tear, every cut — I bleed when she gets hurt. I was just fourteen! Fourteen Malory — a boy!” He stretched that last word “—when she used me as her shield. There's no moving on from that.” He poured the remaining whisky into his mouth and swallowed hard. “I know — baby I know what the binding spell did to you—to us,” she said softly, eyes sympathetic, “I do not understand why she had to sacrifice you like that but it's time to stop letting her control the kind of man you ought to become.” “Malory — baby — listen” he leaned closer and cupped her face with both hands trying to assure her softly “we do not need witches. I will find the vessel ok? I have my ways, as for witches, I will never need their help.” Malory gave a deep sigh “Kael what she did to you was evil, but what you are doing to yourself right now is self-sabotage — it's time to forget about your mother!” Kael roared, heavy anger descended on him and he pushed her but not enough to make her fall. “Do not talk about that witch again!”
