Annys had Keelin in a single room, connected to machines that monitored every aspect of her body.
Keelin had been angry at first, demanding that she be left alone. But they’d allowed her access to the data and explained the situation with her body. Annys brought in lattice experts who used to work in deep Kaiahive, who understood the NeoGen project.
They convinced Keelin that it was all for her own good.
“How are you feeling?” Ryann asked, sitting on the chair next to the bed.
Keelin lay under a green blanket. She wore no mask, no hood, and her grey skin and snout looked out of place. It reminded Ryann of one of her mother’s old stories, the fanciful ones with half-human half-animals she used to enjoy so much. The ones that always had a moral at the end.
