THE BOY FROM PLATFORM SEVEN
Chapter Two: The Secret Notebook
Amelia had never run that fast in her life.
Her shoes slapped against the wet pavement as she followed Noah through the narrow streets behind the train station. Rain soaked her hair, and her breathing became heavier with every step.
“Where are we going?” she called.
“Somewhere safe!”
“That isn't an answer!”
“It’s the only one I have!”
Amelia frowned.
She still had no idea why she was running.
She had simply trusted him.
That thought made her nervous.
They turned down a narrow street and stopped beside an old brick building.
Noah pushed open a metal door.
“Inside.”
Amelia hesitated.
“Are you serious?”
“Yes.”
“You're a stranger.”
“I know.”
“You told me not to trust strangers.”
“I know.”
“And now you're asking me to follow you into a mysterious building?”
Noah looked at her.
“You have a point.”
“Thank you.”
“But we don't have much time.”
Amelia sighed.
She stepped inside.
The building appeared to be an abandoned community center. Dusty chairs were stacked against one wall, and old posters hung crookedly from the walls.
Noah closed the door behind them.
For a few seconds, neither spoke.
Then Amelia turned toward him.
“Start explaining.”
Noah looked down.
“You're right.”
“About what?”
“Everything.”
Amelia folded her arms.
“Good. Start with your name.”
“Noah.”
“Your real name.”
He hesitated.
“Noah James.”
“Okay. Why was that man following you?”
Noah sat on an old wooden bench.
“Because he wants this.”
He pulled the black notebook from his backpack.
Amelia stared at it.
“That little notebook?”
“Yes.”
“What is inside?”
“Information.”
“What kind of information?”
“Information that could get people into serious trouble.”
Amelia's expression changed.
“Then why did you leave it on the bench?”
“I didn't.”
She frowned.
“What?”
“I left it there intentionally.”
Amelia stared at him.
“Why?”
“Because I knew you'd find it.”
She stepped back.
“You knew I would find it?”
Noah nodded.
“How?”
“I've seen you before.”
Amelia's heart began beating faster.
“Where?”
“At your school.”
She stared at him.
“When?”
“Several times.”
“That is not comforting.”
“I know.”
“Were you following me?”
“No.”
“Then why were you watching me?”
Noah looked uncomfortable.
“Because your name appeared in the notebook.”
Amelia went silent.
“My name?”
“Yes.”
He opened the notebook.
Several pages were filled with handwriting, dates, addresses, and names.
Amelia immediately recognized hers.
Amelia Carter.
Her eyes widened.
“Why is my name here?”
“I don't know yet.”
“You don't know?”
“No.”
“That is not good enough.”
“I agree.”
Amelia stepped closer.
“Who wrote this?”
“That’s what I'm trying to find out.”
She looked through the pages.
There were dozens of names.
Some had been crossed out.
Others had notes beside them.
Then she saw something that made her stomach drop.
Her mother's name.
“Why is my mother here?”
Noah looked at the page.
His expression became serious.
“I was afraid you'd see that.”
“Tell me.”
“I can't.”
“You can and you will.”
Noah stood.
“I don't know everything.”
“Then tell me what you do know.”
He took a breath.
“My older brother disappeared six months ago.”
Amelia's expression softened.
“I'm sorry.”
“He was investigating something. A company. He believed someone was hiding information about illegal activities.”
Amelia looked at the notebook.
“Was this his?”
“Yes.”
“What happened to him?”
“No one knows.”
She became quiet.
Noah continued.
“Before he disappeared, he gave the notebook to me. He told me that if anything happened to him, I should find certain people listed inside.”
“And I'm one of those people?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I don't know.”
Amelia looked at the page again.
Her mother's name appeared directly beneath hers.
“What about my mother?”
“I don't know that either.”
She shook her head.
“This makes no sense.”
“I know.”
A loud sound came from outside.
Both froze.
Someone was approaching the building.
Noah immediately closed the notebook.
“Stay here.”
“Where are you going?”
“To check.”
“No.”
He looked at her.
“You just told me to trust you, but you're going outside alone?”
“I'll be fine.”
“That is exactly what someone says before something goes wrong.”
Despite everything, Noah smiled.
“You worry too much.”
“And you explain too little.”
He shook his head.
Then footsteps stopped outside the door.
Noah's smile disappeared.
Someone tried the handle.
Amelia held her breath.
The door rattled.
Once.
Twice.
Then silence.
Noah whispered, “Don't move.”
They waited.
After several seconds, the footsteps faded.
Noah finally relaxed.
“Who was that?”
“I don't know.”
“You're lying.”
He looked at her.
“I don't know who it was.”
“But you have an idea.”
Noah sighed.
“There are people looking for this notebook.”
“Because of what's inside?”
“Yes.”
“And now they know I have seen it.”
“Yes.”
Amelia sat down.
“This is unbelievable.”
Noah sat beside her, leaving plenty of space between them.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For dragging you into this.”
“You didn't exactly give me a choice.”
“I know.”
Amelia looked at him.
For the first time, she noticed how tired he seemed.
“You've been dealing with this alone?”
“For six months.”
“That sounds awful.”
Noah looked away.
“It hasn't been easy.”
Amelia didn't know what to say.
After a moment, she smiled faintly.
“Well, you're not alone anymore.”
Noah looked at her.
“You shouldn't say that.”
“Why?”
“Because you don't know what you're getting into.”
“Neither do you.”
He laughed softly.
“You really don't know when to stop, do you?”
“No.”
For the first time, Noah's smile lasted longer.
Then his phone vibrated.
He checked the screen.
His expression immediately changed.
“What?”
He showed Amelia the message.
It contained only one sentence.
We know where you are.
Amelia's smile disappeared.
“Who sent that?”
Noah didn't answer.
The lights suddenly flickered.
Amelia stood.
“We need to leave.”
“Yes.”
They hurried toward the back exit.
Noah opened the door and looked outside.
The street was empty.
“Come on.”
They stepped into the rain.
As they walked away from the building, Amelia looked back.
The abandoned center stood silently behind them.
She suddenly realized that her life had changed in a single evening.
Only hours earlier, her biggest concern had been getting home before her mother called.
Now her name was written inside a mysterious notebook, her mother's name was inside it too, and someone was searching for Noah.
She looked at him.
“Where are we going now?”
“To my brother's old apartment.”
“Why?”
“Because there may be something there that explains why your name is in the notebook.”
Amelia nodded.
Then she stopped.
“Noah?”
“Yes?”
“If we find out that my mother is in danger, you promise you'll tell me everything?”
He looked directly into her eyes.
“I promise.”
They continued walking through the rain.
Neither of them noticed the dark car parked across the street.
Inside it, someone watched them disappear around the corner.
A phone was lifted.
A message was sent.
They're together.
The reply came almost immediately.
Good. Let them lead us to the notebook.
And somewhere in the city, someone was already waiting for Amelia and Noah to uncover a secret that had been hidden for years.
