Chapter 13: Defeat of the Alpha King

1290 Words
Diana’s pov How do I even begin to explain it? Training under Kai was torturous, but at the end of the day, I felt stronger. I have always been proud, the best warrior in my pack, that I could go against my father or brother. But life has been humbling me more than I care to admit. All those abilities I have been proud of all my life proved to be insignificant. I couldn’t even hold up against Ezra during our last time. The only reason I survived was that he chose to let me go. And that feeling of being at someone else’s mercy leaves a bitter taste in one’s mouth. Not only that, but seeing the differences in our strengths and seeing how weak I truly was didn’t help. I looked up at the Vampire Prince, who was standing on the opposite side of the room. He was breathless just like me, and I felt it again. That feeling I always had every time I would spar with my brother and actually have the upper hand. That feeling that I am not just some little girl who ran away and left her parents to die. Well, they were already dead, but I still ran away like a coward, and I don’t like that. “I can’t believe it, you are keeping me on my toes and aren’t even using magic. As your master, I am proud.” I wanted to scoff and act like those words meant nothing to me. But Kai isn’t a person who praises others very easily. This means that he has been genuinely impressed by my progress, and I must say, so have I. Now, to catch you all up on everything that has been happening over the past few years. Kai took me to his house, which is a castle, believe it or not. How has the guy been in hiding for so long? He doesn’t seem to understand the concept of blending in. But the good thing is that it is entirely in another country, which doesn’t have werewolves. And I understand why werewolves are hot-blooded creatures. We prefer climates that are on the colder side, and it turns out vampires are cold-blooded, so they prefer climates on the hotter side. He lives in the middle of a desert, yes, surrounded by an endless ocean of sand. It took some time to get used to it, and I guess being a hybrid helped me adjust a bit. Back to the main issue, he did everything that he had promised me. Trained me himself from the very first moment he arrived. At first, he would constantly complain about everything, my technique, and also my speed. Apparently, I fight like a man, which isn’t the right fighting style for me. And he also arranged magic teachers, and when I say that, I mean teachers. Every single one of them drilled magic into me. “I am surprised, though. Why didn’t you use the fighting style you developed? From what I heard, it’s beautiful,” he added when I didn’t respond to his earlier praise. “And why are you singing my praises today?” I looked at him, fighting someone every day for almost 3 years straight is enough to get to know them. I might not know what is deep in his heart, nor does he mine, but I think we have reached some kind of understanding. “Because there is a question I want to ask you. Why? Why are you so relaxed and calm? The Alpha Prince hasn’t made any move to find you. Actually, I heard he is getting engaged.” Maybe I am being cocky or getting ahead of myself. But those eyes that night, I knew what I saw in his eyes, and I know I am not wrong. Not only that, but something really interesting happened last night. This mate bond, I always thought it was a curse, but a few times I think it is a blessing. Ezra got badly injured last night. I could feel it through the mate bond. Since Kai is here, there is only one other person I know who could injure him to that extent. That look in his eyes that night reminded me of something my father used to say. He spoke about how Ezra and his father were the same. But the father envies the son’s strength and tries to control him. And Ezra, on the other hand, isn’t someone who would like to be controlled. Their fighting and killing one another was always written in stone. “Well, I think you will change your mind once you hear what happened. I believe the Alpha King is dead,” I explained to him with a smile. “And how do you know that?” he asked me. I was about to answer when Ethan walked into the room. “I have news about the Alpha King. He has been defeated by his son Ezra,” Ethan finished off. His eyes flickered to me before going back to Kai. But I sat there and processed his words because I couldn’t believe them. The Alpha King has been defeated, but he is not dead. The Ezra I know isn’t one to have mercy on his opponents. If he started a fight with his father, he must have wanted to see it until the very end. Then why not kill his father? “Well, the Alpha King is alive, so you were wrong on that part. But it still doesn’t solve our little problem.” Now, all the playfulness was completely gone in Kai’s tone. His way of telling me that he has kept his part of the deal, and now it is time that I keep mine. “Well then, I guess it is my turn to find what you are looking for. And maybe it’s a good thing the Alpha King is still alive; he might have answers we need.” At first, Kai didn’t trust me with the truth, but then he eventually told me everything. He was going to have to tell me eventually, since we would be working together to find whatever he was looking for. After everything he told me, I understood why he made that proposal in the first place. I did change a few terms, and at the same time. I understand why the Vampire King and some of his kids want to start a war. Ezra has a solution, and it is peaceful, so he asked for some time to solve it his way. If both of us fail, then this world will be turned upside down. After ironing out a few details, I got ready and went straight to my aunt’s coven. This is where Ezra left me, right? And this is where he will find me. As expected, the moment her eyes landed on me, my aunt wasn’t so happy. This time, I could guess that it was because of my actions, which makes me happy. It’s hurtful when a person suddenly doesn’t like you, and you did nothing wrong to them. But now she has every right not to like me one bit. The first reason is that I probably got them in trouble with Ezra. And the second is because I managed to get past their magic barriers and walked into their coven like it was nothing. They are very proud of their barriers. “Hello, Aunt, did you miss me?” I gave her my best smile. It took me about 3 days to get back here. Now, how long do you think it will take Ezra to come here? Will he look forward to our little reunion?
