Ezra’s pov
Flashback: “Why do we have to attend some girl’s 8th birthday?” I couldn’t help but frown as I asked this question.
“Alpha Elman is a very close friend of mine and one of the most powerful Alphas around. We need to keep them close,” father answered without looking away from his papers.
I have met this Alpha Elman a few times, and even with our few interactions, I am not impressed.
His Alpha aura isn’t what it should be.
I don’t get why someone like my father would hold him in such high regard.
It is fine if he wants to go, but do I have to go with him?
This fever is killing me.
I would have preferred to stay at home until it had subsided.
I looked at my father, and I knew that telling him that I am sick wasn’t an option.
Being sick is a weakness, one an Alpha Prince of all werewolves shouldn’t have.
So I sat back and let myself relax because getting worked up only makes things worse.
We got to Alpha Elman’s pack, and, just like him, it wasn’t that impressive.
Yes, I will admit that he has one of the largest packs, but I am still not impressed.
“Sabrina, so nice to see you again,” my darling mother said as she hugged the woman coming towards us.
Amazing, she shows more care for strangers she has never met than for her own son.
Well, at this point, I am the only stranger in her life.
The elders started talking, and I could feel the fever acting out.
I need to be alone and try to get it under control somehow.
“I would like to go to my room.”
I interrupted their little girl talk.
The woman named Sabrina seemed surprised, and she didn’t take it personally.
She instructed an omega to show me to my room and told me what time to come down for dinner.
The moment I got to my room, I let my exhaustion take over.
Slumped on the bed and drifted off to sleep.
Most of the time, when I have a fever like this, all I need is to sleep it off.
I started feeling very uncomfortable; my entire body felt like it was on fire.
The fever, why is it only getting worse?
It never gets worse when I sleep it off.
I wanted to open my eyes, but I couldn’t, no matter how hard I tried.
My eyelids felt heavy, and everything felt so heavy that I couldn’t even lift my own hands.
I heard the door open, and I sent a silent prayer that it wasn’t any of my parents.
Hands touched my forehead, and they were quickly removed.
The door opened and closed again, and then it was silent.
I need to get this fever in check somehow, but how?
It’s not like I can tend to myself, and I can’t let my father see me like this.
If I don’t show up for dinner, then things will get bad very soon.
Then the door opened again, and I heard soft footsteps just as before.
A strong scent of herbs hit my nose, and suddenly I could breathe normally.
My noise was kind of blocked; it was hard to breathe or even tell who was coming in and out of my room.
Something cold touched my forehead, and I could feel the cold slowly seeping through my body.
The shirt I was wearing was slowly unbuttoned, and the cold compressed touched my body again.
The fever, I could feel it slowly disappearing, and I became even more aware of everything around me.
The hand is touching my forehead now and then.
It feels too small to be an adult, and judging by those footsteps, I am correct.
And now I finally caught a scent that wasn’t medicine or herbs.
A sweet scent of vanilla, I slowly opened my eyes and was met with hazel eyes staring down at me.
“You are awake,” the voice was so gentle it caught me off guard.
I looked at her, her black hair tied up, and she had a smile as gentle as her voice.
“I am Diana, you must be Ezra,” she added.
“You didn’t tell my father about this, did you?” I asked her.
“No, I didn’t tell any adults. I had a feeling you didn’t want them to know,” she answered.
Diana, that is the name of the Alpha’s daughter.
Is this brat supposed to be 8 years old?
We are the same age, but she is so sensible, not that I am not sensible.
It’s just that kids our age are stupid.
I sat up, and I was about to say something when she suddenly closed the distance between us.
She placed her forehead on mine and then nodded.
“Your fever has gone down.”
I looked around the room, and there was a bowl, and inside is what looked like herbs and medicine.
So she is the one who treated my fever.
“Wait, your fever has gone down, but your face is red,” she tried to touch me again, but I blocked her hand.
“Aren’t you scared of me?”
I let the words linger and looked at her so she could feel the fear I wanted her to feel.
The fear she should have felt the moment I opened my eyes.
But no, instead she looked at me with eyes full of awe.
“Your eyes are so beautiful. I heard a rumour that you have weird eyes, but they are fascinating. I read a book that said that eyes are the windows to the soul. I wonder, what do you think your soul is saying?” she asked with a massive grin.
Seems like my eyes aren’t the only fascinating thing around here.
So this is the daughter of that unimpressive man? End of flashback
I slowly opened my eyes. Gosh, I am tired.
That battle took more out of me than I had anticipated.
I sat up and looked around my room.
Was that a dream or just memories?
I looked down at my body, covered in bandages.
That asshole really wasn’t going in for the kill.
He had multiple chances to kill me, but chose not to.
The big question is why?
I don’t think it was because I am his son and he cares about me.
It seems like he still wants to control me; he held back against but I didn’t hold back against him.
I wanted to kill him, but things changed at the last minute.
But now with him all locked up, I get to finally look for Diana.
She has been gone for 3 years; the only thing keeping me together is the mate bond.
I can feel it, tugging at me that she is still alive and well.
If not, I think I would have lost my mind a long time ago.
I got up, and there was a knock on the door.
Zayn walked in and looked at me with a massive grin.
What does he have to smile about?
“We found her,” he said.
I knew who he was talking about, but I still wanted to make sure that there was no mistake.
“Who?” I asked, and he didn’t seem bothered by my question.
“We found your mate, Alpha King. Diana Elman,” he answered.
Diana, you have finally returned.
But where did you disappear to this whole time?
Where the hell have you been?
