Chapter 29: Weakness

Diana’s pov Ezra came out all dressed up, and I couldn’t help but smile. He was wearing a suit that was the same colour as my dress. The embroideries were silver on his jacket as well, and gosh, he was handsome. His eyes roamed all over my body, and I watched as he smirked. Good, I thought his reaction would be a frown when he thought about all the men who would see me dressed like that. I might have made a deal with the devil, but it was a good deal. “Today you stick with me, you don’t leave my side even for a minute,” he said, and I frowned. “What if I have to go to the bathroom?” I asked him, and he looked at me. I understand why he wants me to stay by his side, and I would also rather do that. The place will be packed today; every Alpha will be there to watch the coronation. And some aren’t happy with Ezra’s decision to take me as his Queen Luna. Which means, there is a huge chance that someone might try to assassinate me today. In this position, I have a lot of Alphas eyeing it and wanting their daughters to take it. I am sure some were even making preparations the moment Ezra defeated his father. But then, he disappeared for two days, and when he came back, he had the traitor’s daughter in his arms. Killing me means that the second most powerful position in the werewolf hierarchy will be open. But no one, no one will try to make a move when I am by the Alpha King’s side. Everyone already knows Ezra’s temper; he might not be his father, but they are a lot alike. And Ezra’s Alpha’s aura will be enough to make anyone who wants to do something stupid think twice. And I don’t mind, I don’t want to spend the whole night fending off assassins. “I will do so.” When he finally heard me agree, he nodded. “You look breathtaking, but that dress is missing something.” The way he said it with a glint in his eye made me look at myself. He took out a necklace from his pocket, a diamond necklace, and in the middle was a big red gem. I looked at the colour and then at his eyes before scoffing. “Marking your territory?” I asked him, and he just shrugged. He placed it around my neck, using the chance to slightly touch my neck in the process. When he was done, he walked a few steps away from me and then smiled. “You are a vision.” I looked down so he couldn’t see the heat creeping up on my cheeks. I shouldn’t blush at his compliment; I know that I am a stunning woman. “Well, you look terrible.” He just chuckled at this and held out his hand. I put my hand in his, took a deep breath, and we walked out. The pack hall was loud, but the moment we were announced and the massive doors were opened, it went quiet. You could even hear a pin drop as all eyes landed on us. ‘I already don’t like the way they are looking at you,’ Ezra said through the mind link. I wanted to roll my eyes or give him some sharp retort, but I also didn’t like the way they were looking at me. But at the same time, I wanted to pat myself on the back for being a genius. Knowing Ezra, this coronation would have started in a blood bath. His hand around mine became firmer, and the aura around him changed. There is that feeling, the feeling that sends a shiver down my spine. I remember this very well because every time it changed like this, someone would die. I made sure to press my hand against his firmly, and he relaxed just for a few seconds. They were silent, afraid to say a word because no one was stupid enough to say it in his presence. Even Camille, you heard her this morning at the breakfast table. All she could talk about was how she got Justin and rubbed it in my face. She can’t say it upfront that I don’t deserve to be Queen Luna. Saying that would be the same as questioning Ezra, and no one does that and lives to tell the tale. But they can glare, they can tell me with their eyes that they don’t approve of me, and nothing can be done. The coronation started, and everything was boring. And I couldn’t focus on it, my attention was looking around and trying to sense any murderous intent. Ignoring the obvious one next to me, and it turns out a lot of people in this room have really dark intent. There is no way of knowing if all of it is directed at Ezra or at me as well. But nothing happened; there is no way that someone wouldn’t try anything. There is always that ambitious person, and yet no moves were made. I looked around and noticed something. Then it clicked, the reason why Ezra still hasn’t named Zayn as his beta. Zayn wasn’t in the room, and neither was that girl, Isabella. His top-ranking officials, and from what I saw, trusted, weren’t in the room with him. I stood by Ezra’s side, trying not to let all those hateful gazes get to me. But I wasn’t just observing and keeping an eye out for threats. I was memorizing, writing down the names of everyone who dared to glare at me. I now know who my enemies are, and I will remember them in the future. Right now, they can freely glare at me because I am not Queen yet. And I bet some of them think that the day I become Queen will never come. A lot can happen in that short period of time. Well, the wedding date hasn’t been decided yet, and I can’t become Queen without marrying Ezra. A lot can happen to me before the wedding, after the wedding, and even before my own coronation. However, I didn’t come back here to die. I don’t plan on rolling over and dying just so they can give their daughters my position. Maybe this wasn’t on my vision board, maybe it wasn’t the future I wanted for myself. But now that I am here, I intend on sitting on the throne next to Ezra and wearing that title with pride. That title will help me get back my father’s pack. It will help me prove their innocence so that they can rest in peace knowing I cleared their names. That throne will give me the power to wreak havoc. And too bad for them, because even their Alpha King wants me on their throne. Ezra has his own reasons to keep me by his side until he has had enough, or, like he said, forever. So I am sure that even he will take measures to ensure that I sit on that throne. All I have to do is stick by his side and abide by my time. But, since there are a few people I can deal with even without the title of Queen. I plan on dealing with them right away. And situations like this aren’t very good, but they are necessary. Now I know who I will need by my side once I become queen. I didn’t only memorize the faces of people who clearly wanted me dead. No, I memorized the faces of those who looked at me like they were on my side. Whose eyes were telling me that they supported me even if they couldn’t say it out loud. ‘If you keep staring at him like that. Then a minute wouldn’t be enough.’ Ezra’s voice in my head was cold and tight. He followed my gaze and, unfortunately, found me staring at a childhood friend. A son of a pack near ours, we played a lot together and were relatively close. He was one of the people who were supporting me without showing me. And I think what pissed Ezra off was the fact that he even winked at me. I remember Derek, always been playful but has a good heart and is honest. ‘Oh, calm down. I have my reason for looking at him. Anyway, there is no man in this room more handsome than you.’ I watched as his lips curled up just a little bit. The faint smile disappeared in a matter of seconds, and he focused his attention on the Alpha in front of him. Ezra’s silver hair blended perfectly with the silver crown. He made no sign to show that the silver was hurting him in any way, and it’s been hours. Silver is one of the few things that can hurt a werewolf. And they made the crown with silver because of the family trait of the royal family. But Ezra seemed to be wearing it with pride and showed no discomfort. He looked like a man with no weakness, an invincible Alpha King. And that got me thinking, what is Ezra Remus’s weakness?
