Diana’s pov
No, I am not obsessed with Ezra.
I looked at Derek, who was still staring at me, waiting for my reaction.
“I am not obsessed with Ezra. You said it yourself, we don’t know each other as much as we thought we did.”
I realized how cold my voice must have sounded when I said that.
I just didn’t want to come across as defensive, and I ended up being a bit harsh.
Derek is still one of my childhood friends and the only one who didn’t betray me.
This one secret doesn’t erase years and years of trust and friendship.
So I looked at him with my best smile.
Derek didn’t return it, which told me that he wasn’t done with our Ezra talk yet.
I wiped the smile off my face and then sighed.
“Fine, say whatever it is that you want to say.”
This time, he smiled, a sign that I still knew my friend even just a little.
“Well, it is more of a warning. The two of you are the most powerful people I know. You could burn this entire pack to the ground, and we wouldn’t be able to stop you.”
He had a proud smile on his face as he said it.
“But Diana, if you two really are obsessed with one another. Then that connection could either be a blessing to this world or a massive curse.”
I let myself process his words, and he was right.
The answer to both their questions is a prime example of that.
I wouldn’t just stand and watch as Ezra is fighting alone, especially if he is losing.
I would join him in the fight, and the two of us fighting side by side would be a disaster.
Huh, is that the reason why I have always insisted that we were enemies?
Did I know deep down that if we came together, then the world wouldn’t be able to stop us?
No, if I believe in what he is saying, then it is the same as agreeing that I am obsessed with Ezra.
And I think that it has been established that I am with him out of necessity.
I need the power and influence that only he can provide as the Alpha King.
Which is why if he started a war, I would join his side.
Not because I am obsessed with him.
The more I think about what he said, the more absurd it sounds to me.
How can I be obsessed with Ezra?
He is the one who is obsessed with me and would do anything to keep me by his side.
For me, Ezra is merely a means to an end and nothing else.
Yes, I do happen to be slightly attracted to him.
I mean, I am a woman, and he is a really hot man, but that is it.
Yes, I enjoy his kisses, but if Derek were to be kissed by Ezra, he would understand why.
That man just knows how to please a woman.
I am not obsessed with Ezra even for a second.
I looked at Derek and then gave him a reassuring smile.
“Ezra is merely a pawn to me. I need him to get revenge for my parents. And if I am hostile to him, then he will have his guard up. So if I have to be close to him to get what I want, then I will do that.”
I tried my best to explain what Derek saw this morning.
I mean, it is true.
Getting this close to him wasn’t part of my strategy at first, but it is now.
Ezra clearly knows something about his father’s experiments.
I need the knowledge he has, and if I combine it with mine, then I will have the answers I need.
I am close with Ezra out of necessity and for no other reason.
We went back inside and found Alpha Gomez, Gracie, and Ezra sitting together.
The room was silent.
Gracie kept stealing glances at Ezra.
She would blush every time, and I like Gracie a lot.
She has always been Derek’s cute little sister.
And every time people made fun of her and tried to bully her, I would come to her defense.
But right now, the way she is staring at my mate is pissing me off.
I want to gouge out her eyes and put her in that wheelchair for the rest of her life.
Wait a second, where the f**k did those dark thoughts suddenly come from?
‘Let’s do it, our mate is ready to wipe out this pack. All we have to do is say the word,’ Lilith my wolf said.
This little b***h, I told her that if she wanted me to continue being close to Ezra, she would stay out of this.
Which is why this whole time she has been a mere spectator and hasn’t said a word.
Lilith and I don’t really get along as well as one would hope.
She is a love-sick fool who would do anything for our mate.
Including starting an entire f*****g war by trying to kill the daughter of one of the most influential Alphas.
‘I am not the one who wanted to gouge out her eyes and put her in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. I just merely supported your thoughts,’ she pointed out.
The mocking tone of her voice was even more annoying than my realization.
I thought all those things all on my own, without Lilith’s response.
After I got to know Lilith, I realized why the moon goddess made Ezra mates and me.
She is violent, which is why I don’t let her out often.
I felt Ezra’s gaze on me.
He was wearing his glasses now, hiding those red eyes.
But I saw something of a smile dancing on his lips as if sensing my dark thoughts.
I am not obsessed with Ezra; this doesn’t prove anything.
Yes, Ezra is mine, so when someone looks at him like that, I am bound to be pissed off.
I don’t mean mine in that way.
I mean that he is my mate, the mate bond is the reason I had those feelings.
“I wanted to ask you two something. I know you don’t owe me anything, but please help me,” Alpha Gomez said, bowing his head.
I sat down next to Ezra, and I think I already knew what he wanted to ask.
“Please help me find my daughter.”
I looked at Ezra, who had a frown on his face.
“What if she is dead?
Then we would be looking for a ghost.
Not only that, but even if she is alive, what do you think she has become?
Raised wherever she was raised and with whatever my father did to her.
Even if we do find her, she will be traumatized and will have a lot of problems.”
Ezra wasn’t wrong to point that out to them.
“If it were Diana, if she were taken away from you for years. Would those reasons stop you from trying to find her?” Derek asked.
The aura around the room changed; Ezra took that as a threat.
Derek now knows I am a hybrid, and if the Alpha King found out, then he would take me too.
“I would turn the world upside down to find her. If need be, I would burn it to the f*****g ground. But this isn’t about Diana; you are asking us to look for your sister. Someone I have no affections for and don’t particularly care about. And what do I get from it?” Ezra asked.
I looked down to hide the blush on my face.
But Ezra was right, it would take our time to look for her.
However, I am hoping that their daughter and what I am looking for are in the same place.
”Information you have both been looking for. A trail left behind by Alpha Elman’s son.”
Derek looked at me with a smile.
“We have a trail of your brother, is that enough?” he asked with a smirk.
A trail left behind by my brother?
How is that even possible?
