Chapter 47: Cherry on top

Ezra’s pov She was just standing there looking at her old room. It was still that ridiculous purple she loved when she was still a teenager. I have had people clean every inch of this place. This wasn’t just some place her family came once in a while. It was a place where her parents celebrated their love and where we had most of our firsts. The first time I kissed her was in her purple room. I walked behind her. At times like this, I don’t know what to do for her. I don’t know if she wants me to hold her or just stand by her side. But one thing is certain, I don’t think that she wants to be alone at the moment. So I did what I wanted to do, what every inch of my body told me to do. I walked towards her and hugged her from behind. I felt it as the tense muscles slowly relaxed at my touch. I love that I have that kind of effect on her. She let herself melt into my arms. We walked into her old bedroom. “This place is spotless. Did you have someone clean it?” she asked me. But I had a feeling she didn’t need me to answer that question. I made sure to tell them to keep everything as it is. Not to move anything, so everything in her room was still in place. I opened my arms and let her go so she could look around the room. I saw a younger version of myself waiting for her in this room. I had snuck in when her parents had invited me to come and stay with them. My father had sent me to spy on their family. He wanted me to learn their weakness so we could one day use them against them. That time, I didn’t learn their weaknesses, but I learned mine. I was drawn to Diana from the very moment I was 8 years old. I knew from the moment she looked at me with no fear in her eyes that I wanted her by my side. But those thoughts were merely the innocent thoughts of a child. It was in this house that I began seeing her differently. In this house, she started consuming my thoughts in a way I didn’t think possible. It was in this house that I knew I didn’t just want her by my side anymore. I wanted all Diana could offer. I waited that night in this room as she watched a movie with her father innocently. She had no idea that a predator was waiting for her back in her room. I remember that kiss. I had no idea what I was doing at the time. I was merely a teenager who had no interest in women. For a second, when I was back at home, I thought maybe that something was wrong with me. Boys my age spoke mostly about girls and nothing else. But the moment I saw Diana again after what seemed like forever, she awakened something in me. That is why that night, the moment she opened this door, I devoured her. The more I kissed her, the more I wanted every inch of her. That innocent little infatuation turned into something completely animalistic. The thoughts I had of her starting from there on were anything but pure. I knew it, it was the first time I felt that way, but I knew it was different. I knew my feelings were intense, even if it was the first time I felt that way. That normal people didn’t want someone with such intensity that it feels like they might die. Diana turned around to look at me. I could tell that she was also thinking about the same thing. Her cheeks had turned a little red. “You were nervous,” she blurted out, and I looked at her, confused. “The first time you kissed me. I could tell that you were nervous and doing your best to hide it,” she explained. Of course, I was a nervous wreck. I wanted to kiss her, but at the same time, I didn’t know how she would feel about that. The thought that she would push me away and look at me with disgust terrified me. I wanted her to want me just as much. We had never seen eye to eye, even back then. We always fought because of our different ideals. I had a little fear that deep down, she truly hated me. That was the reason she was kind to me, she was just that, a kind person. She wouldn’t leave someone who had a fever to fend for themselves. She just noticed that I barely touched the food because it was too spicy, and because she is nice. She couldn’t bear to watch as I went to sleep on an empty stomach. Which is why she invited me downstairs, where she made that monstrosity she called pancakes. But when she didn’t push me away, when her hand covered mine as if to assure me that it was okay, I nearly jumped with joy. “I am going to go and take a bath,” Diana said as she walked into her bathroom. I threw myself on the bed and let myself finally relax. The mention of that name, Kai, put me on high alert. I thought that maybe Diana really didn’t want to be with me. That I was forcing this entire relationship on her, but being here made me realize that I wasn’t. There were so many stolen kisses in this house. Hiding from her parents, she could have screamed at any time. She could have told them that I was bothering her, and they would have sent me back home. But no, every time she would close the door behind her to hide me. She would leave the door of her balcony open, so I wouldn’t get caught knocking on the door. In her own way, I think Diana chose me just as I have chosen her. And not only once, but she has chosen me over and over again. She got out of the bathroom and climbed into bed. I didn’t move and watched as she came closer to me and snuggled up to me. I let myself drift off to sleep. Whoever this Kai is, I will not let him have her. Diana is mine, always has been, and will always be mine. I slowly opened my eyes when I felt the sun on my face. I looked around, and Diana wasn’t in the room. I was about to get up to look for her when I heard something downstairs. She didn’t put up a barrier, so I could hear that she was around. Not only that, but she was singing to her father’s favourite old music downstairs. And from the scent in the air, she was making something. I got off the bed and went downstairs to find the most beautiful sight I have ever seen. Diana, with her hair tied up, wearing nothing but my shirt, and covered in pancake batter. “Morning,” she said, looking at me with a smile. The most genuine smile I have seen out of her in the last couple of years. “I made you pancakes, you like them, right?” she asked, and I nodded. . Her pancakes aren’t bad, but when you think of all the other things she adds, they are a nightmare. Diana isn’t a middle-ground kind of person. If she wants something spicy, then it has to be really spice and the same thing goes for sweet. I sat down and watched with a smile as she put the pancakes on a plate for me. She adds chocolate chips to the pancake batter, then continues to add all kinds of syrups she can get her hands on. Then continued to put ice cream as well and sprinkles. I watched as she put a small cherry on top and then looked at me with a smile. “To make it a little healthy,” she added. I found myself laughing at this. The little cherry doesn’t help at all because even the cherry isn’t an actual cherry. It’s a cherry-shaped and flavoured candy. She walked towards me, “and for another cherry on top,” she said, and placed a small, gentle kiss on my lips. She placed a cup of black coffee on the side and then sat next to me. Huh, can’t things stay like this forever?
