Diana’s pov
I slowly opened my eyes and found Ezra staring at me.
“Morning,” he said the moment my eyes landed on his red eyes.
Memories of last night flooded in, and I found myself blushing.
Gosh, I got so caught up in the moment that I did and said things I shouldn’t have.
Ezra’s hands were wrapped around me tightly, and he seemed like he had no intentions of letting me go.
“You will start training with my mother today. She will teach you everything you need to know as Queen and will hand over all her work.”
I sat there and thought about this so-called training.
This will give me access to a few secrets of this pack.
And it might also tell me where they are keeping the Alpha King.
Given his status and also his threat level, he isn’t with regular criminals.
If I asked Ezra, would he tell me where his father is?
Or would that put him on high alert, and he would have people watching me?
Other than me, what the hell does Ezra want?
What answers is he hoping his father would give him?
Is it possible that he wants to know the same things I do?
I felt his gaze and looked up at him.
He was studying me with a frown on his face.
“You seem to be thinking about something serious. A penny for your thoughts?” he asked me, and I nodded.
“Where are you keeping your father?” I asked him straight on.
It is best to know where I stand with him because I am always confused with him.
One moment, he kicks me out of the window, and the next, he takes the impact for me.
So I want to know, will he answer my question, or will he kick me out of the window like before?
I watched how he frowned, and the mood in the room completely changed.
I felt a chill, and he let me go, putting some distance between us.
He got off the bed, put on a robe, and then turned to look at me.
“Seeing him will do nothing but upset you. He will play mind games with you,” Ezra said after some time.
He then walked off to the bathroom while I thought about it.
He was so cold and distant in that moment.
I have only seen him like this the night my parents were killed.
I felt a cold shiver run down my spine as the memories of that night came back.
As the cold look that Ezra had with my parents' dead bodies at his feet came rushing back.
My entire body went cold, and something rose inside me.
Anger, but at who?
And there is another feeling, dread.
What I saw in Ezra’s eyes now was all the emotions he was trying to hide from me.
Fear and guilt, but why would he feel that way?
He defeated his father and put him behind bars.
In a way, he might have done it for his own selfish reasons, but he got justice for my parents.
Then it hit me, his own selfish reasons.
Ezra and his father have a few things in similar and one of them is selfishness.
They would both do whatever it takes to get what they want.
Which means, there is something that Ezra did that he doesn’t want me to find out.
That is why he said those things, that his father will play mind games with me.
This means that there is something his father knows about Ezra that he doesn’t want me to know.
Well then, mate, I wasn’t really asking for his permission anyway.
All I need is to find the information on where he is being kept, and the rest is history.
Tonight, I will meet with the Alpha King whether Ezra likes it or not.
But for now, I will be the perfect Queen and go attend my training.
Ezra came out of the bathroom, and I walked in and locked the door behind me.
If I don’t act up or throw a tantrum, then he will know something is off.
I got showered, and I looked at my reflection in the mirror when I was done.
The reason I wanted to see the Alpha King was to ask him about my parents.
I want to know why they had to die the way they did.
My father was the closest thing the Alpha King ever had to a friend.
They had different ideals and values, but they were both strong and Alphas.
Not only that, but they had grown up together.
My father would always defend the Alpha King when people spoke badly of him.
He would talk about the difficult childhood that the Alpha King had growing up.
Apparently, Ezra’s grandfather was more terrible than his own father.
Ezra’s father might have controlled him and used him as a weapon, but he never raised his hands against him.
However, his grandfather didn’t care and would kill his own child if he wanted.
Maybe being a tyrant runs in the family.
Maybe Ezra will betray me the same way his father betrayed my mother.
Either way, I will not be sticking around long enough to find out.
Ezra was waiting for me, and we went to the dinner table together.
The moment we walked in, everyone bowed their heads as always and waited until Ezra sat down.
“Your dress last night was beautiful. It didn’t look like the dress you told me you were going to wear,” Camille was the first one to speak up.
No pretenses, but just straight to the point.
“Well, I changed my mind at the last minute,” I answered, and heard her scoff loud and clear.
“Like father, like daughter, I suppose betrayal does run in the family.”
She snapped, and I found myself scoffing.
Gosh, I am having a really crappy morning today.
So I looked at my so-called and realized a very important detail.
I am not a teenager anymore, nor is she.
Playing these games with her is a waste of time.
She is the one who is wrong and vile for playing such games with me.
“Really? Fancy coming from you. My father saved your entire family when you were about to be rogues. However, your father testified against the man who saved him.”
I made sure my voice was loud and clear as I said all those words.
I paused and stared her directly in the eyes and then smiled.
“And you come to my room and start playing stupid and petty games like a f*****g teenager.
I saw right through your fake kindness. Grow the f**k up, Camille, no matter who you marry, no matter what dress you wear. Deep down, you will always be nothing but a rogue omega. I might be the daughter of a traitor, but I am also your Queen. I will always outclass you.”
Camille’s eyes went wide, and I watched as her face changed into different emotions.
Surprise.
Hurt.
Anger.
Hate.
The entire room became deadly silent until someone started clapping their hands.
My eyes landed on Agnes, who had a massive grin on her face.
“What? Someone had to put this annoying omega in her place. So what if she is married to a beta of the Alpha King? She is still nothing but an omega.”
The way Agnes emphasized the word made me realize that Camille wasn’t as well-liked as she thought.
Not only that, but I could see a few others trying to hide their smile.
Agnes is a princess; she doesn’t need to suck up to the likes of Camille.
But as for everyone else, they need to suck up to her because technically, she outranks them.
So, they flatter her, and because of this, she thinks that she has power.
She got so bold that she even tried to bully her future Queen.
Looking at her now, hearing those words come out of her mouth is this very moment pissed me off.
I might be taking out all my anger on the wrong person, but Camille deserves it.
“And because I outclass you, I will give you your punishment,” I added with a smirk.
“Punishment?” Camille asked, surprised, and was about to add to something when Ezra put down his glass.
He didn’t slam it or break it; he put it down like he normally does.
But the aura in the room completely changed, and this time everyone felt it.
The aura of an Alpha King, and he was holding back.
I watched as cold sweat coated their faces, and some of them were trying to hide their shivering hands.
“As the future Queen of this pack, Diana is the face of this pack. If outsiders mock her, and that too because someone in this pack is encouraging them.”
He paused for a minute and looked at Camille.
She immediately got up from her chair and then knelt.
“You could have chosen any day to settle your petty revenge. And yet you chose the night of my coronation. Do you even have your wife under control?” he asked, looking directly at Justin.
Justin quickly got up.
He bowed his head as low as it could go.
But while doing so, I watched as he glared at Camille.
Every time Justin is around Ezra, he walks like he is on eggshells.
And I am sure he has done everything in his power not to piss him off.
So I am sure, to have Camille be the reason he is being scolded must sting.
I wonder, how long can two ambitious people stay married for?
