4The streetcar stopped just inside the curved arch Market Street entrance of the Muni Railway tunnel that ran under Twin Peaks to West Portal. I got off and walked along the first commercial block of Castro Street, glancing at the cakes and cookies displayed in the windows of the bakery between the corner bank and a barbershop, catching a whiff of sweet-smelling, fresh-baked goods. A couple doors down, at the Italian deli, there were long and round loaves of sweet and sour French bread on display.
