Confusion was an understatement to what I felt, I looked at Dad, then mom. “Dad, mom, what's going on?” My dad looked at me, his expression had turned protective. “Get behind me baby.” I knew that look, I quickly went and stood behind my dad. I looked at my mom with the corner of my eye, she looked even more fierce than my dad, but I saw her hands, they trembled slightly beside her. The man that looked like the boss let out a menacing laugh, it sounded so cold. “Do you think this little act of yours will keep me from taking her?” “Mr hale, I like truthful men, we made a deal. I gave you 2 million dollars and I was free to come and collect anything I wanted, don't tell me you've forgotten so soon.” I stood behind my dad shocked, then the reality dawned on me, the two million dollars for mom's surgery. Dad collected it from a mafia boss. “Anything, my daughter is not a thing.” Dad said, it didn't look like he was going to back down. “My money, my rule, I decide what is a thing.” The man stood, put his hands in his pocket and brought out a gun, “I don't think you know who you're dealing with Mr Hale.” The man dropped the gun on the table and stepped back. “Let's play a game Mr Hale, if you reach the gun first, I'll walk out of here with her without harming anyone.” He said pointing at me, his mouth twisting in a grin. “But if not, you'll choose the part of your body I'll cut off. Your time starts now.” Cassian turned back and walked away from the table to the couch, he signaled to one of the guards and he came forward, he was the exact distance dad was from the table. “On the count of two… one… two.” My dad moved fast, but the guard just stood there. When my dad was a few steps from the table, the guard finally moved, he was so fast, I barely saw him move. One second, he was standing in his position at the other side of the table, the next second he had grabbed the gun and had returned back to where he stood. Dad stood there, trying to make out what just happened. “Well, well” the man said, you lost.” He nodded his head and the two other guards came forward. Dad stepped back instinctively, blocking me and mom from their view. “You remember hide and seek, baby.” Dad said, still blocking me from their view. He continued “On the count of three, you'll go to hide and seek.” I remembered hide and seek, it was an empty compartment in my room, where I hid a lot when I was younger, only my parents and bestfriend knew there was somewhere like that in the house. What was dad planning? “Dad, I can't leave you here, what would they do to you?” “Three…” dad started counting “two… one” Immediately, I bolted up the step, but before I made it far, The man was already in front of me. My eyes widened in horror, How did he reach me so fast? “You can't outrun Cassian Virell, little one.” He said, the smile that played around his lips was fine now, it was replaced by a cold frown. The decision my dad made for me to run seemed to have made him mad. He dragged me back and brought me to the front of dad. Then he dragged me to the couch and pushed me on it. “No one defines Cassian Virell.” He said, anger evident in his eyes. Cassian beat the hell out of my father. Punch after punch, Dad tried to fight back, but it didn’t matter, Cassian was faster and stronger. Mom intervened in the fight and bit Cassian, She sank her teeth into his hand like an animal. I held my breath, thinking he’d beat her up too. But he didn’t, he picked her up like she weighed nothing. Without saying a word and dropped her on the couch next to me. One of his guards held her down as she struggled to get out of his grip. My dad crawled toward the table, somehow reached the gun that the guard had placed back. He raised it with shaking hands and pointed it at Cassian. But Cassian didn’t flinch, he didn’t even look surprised. One second the gun was up. The next, it was on the ground, kicked away. Cassian slammed my father into the wall, knocked him out cold with one final blow. Then he turned back to me. “You’re mine now.” He nodded to the other guards, one of them came to the couch, picked me up and threw me over his shoulder. My mom tried to fight off the guard that held her down as she stared at me being taken away, but she wasn't strong enough. The last thing I saw before we existed was the heartbroken look on my mom's face as she cried bitterly. Tears rolled down my cheek, the bodyguard put me inside one of the cars and we drove off. The car ride was long, silent and tensed. Cassian sat beside me, like none of what happened back there had touched him. He didn’t say a word, I stared at him. He didn’t look like a monster. That’s what scared me most. He looked calm, like someone used to getting exactly what he wanted. The car finally stopped at a giant iron gate. Beyond it stood a castle, something out of a dream. It was tall, the warm yellow light made it look ethereal. But I couldn't appreciate it's beauty, I had just been torn away from my family. The body guards came, one opened the car door for Cassian while another one dragged me out of the car. Everywhere was quiet, Cassian walked ahead of me, expecting me to follow, I didn’t. He turned around, expression flat. “Let’s not make this harder.” “I hate you,” I said. Something flashed in his eyes, but disappeared quickly. “Good.” was all he said then he kept walking. I followed, because I didn’t have a choice. We reached a large bedroom. He opened the door and stepped aside. “This is yours now,” he said, turning to face me. His eyes scanned my face, lingering too long. “Get some rest.” I still stayed where I was. Then he stepped closer. His hand came up, fingers brushing through my hair slowly, too gently for a man like him. “Goodnight, little one,” he murmured. He turned, walked out, and closed the door. And I was left standing there, heart pounding and skin tingling where he touched me. The days crawled by slowly, I didn't see Cassian again after that night. I ate my food alone, I had maids attending to me, the butler insisted they did. It was so boring here, I didn't have access to the outside world or internet. The thought of running away came to my head sometimes, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. The castle was heavily guarded and it seemed those guards from that night were watching my every move. So it was impossible, I had to continue my daily routine of the maids waking me up, dressing me like I was some kind of doll. Then I'll go and eat, come back to my room, sleep, wake up, eat, and on and on it went. Just as I thought it'll never end, I sat in my room this night. The door opened without a knock, and Cassian stood there. Cassian stood there, he looked disheveled and his eyes were cold, his white shirt was a bit stained by blood. His hands were dripping in blood, I stood up from the bed and walked to him "are you okay?" I said, moving closer to him. "Don't" he said his hands came out in front of him, despite the fact that I hated him, but he looked like he was in pain. I ignored his warning and walked closer to him, I stared at his bloodied hands, but I didn't see any wounds. I searched the other parts of his body, but there was nothing. "The blood is not mine, little one." He smiled down at me, but something about this smile looked sad, it was cold and detached as usual, but as I looked more closely, I saw the sad and forlorn look in his eyes. I reached out instinctively, but retracted my hands immediately. This action was noticed by Cassian, "I just told you I killed people, and you reach out to console me?" He asked, looking down at me, with emotions I couldn't comprehend. He walked forward, closing the gap, his movements deliberate. His hand slid around my waist, pulling me against him, and I felt the hard planes of his body, the heat radiating from him. I stiffened, my hands pressing against his chest in a weak attempt to push him away. “Stop it,” I said, but my voice lacked conviction. My body was betraying me, it was responding to his touch despite my best efforts. Cassian chuckled, his hand slid up my side, his fingers brushing the curve of my breast through my thin shirt. I shivered, my breath catching, “You like that, don’t you?” “I said stop,” I whispered, but my protest was feeble. He ignored me, his fingers teasing the edge of my breast, his thumb circling the tight peak. “You’re mine, Anya,” he murmured, “And your body knows it.” I tried to pull away, but he held me firm, his other hand sliding down to my thigh, pressing through the fabric of my night wear. I gasped, my legs trembling as his fingers were dangerously close to the dampness gathering between my legs. “Stop,” I repeated, but it was barely a whisper now, my voice hoarse with need. Cassian’s lips curved into a cruel smile. “You’re so wet,” he murmured, his fingers stroking me through the fabric, slow and deliberate. “Tell me you don’t want this.” I bit my lip, my eyes closing as pleasure coiled low in her belly. I wanted to push him away, to remind him of what he’d done, of the life he’d stolen from me. But my body was a traitor, craving his touch, aching for more. “I… I don’t,” I managed, but even I didn’t believe it. Cassian laughed softly, his fingers pausing, teasing me with the promise of more. “Liar,” he said, his voice thick with satisfaction. “You’re mine, Anya. And you’ll beg for it soon enough.” I opened my eyes, meeting his gaze, and for a moment, I saw something in them, a challenge, a promise? But then he pulled away, his hands leaving me abruptly, and I felt a pang of frustration. “Don’t forget that,” he said, his voice cold now, distant. “You’re mine. And I’ll remind you of that whenever I please.” Before I could respond, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving me standing there, trembling, my body still humming with unfulfilled desire. I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms, and scolded myself for my weakness. I wasn’t going to bend that easily. I couldn’t.
