Ari's akward apology

1049 Words
I breathed a sigh of relieve when I found no one in any of the hallways leading to the room I was currently staying in, and once I got to the last hallway, there was someone leaning on the wall, waiting for me. He was a little familiar as I recall seeing him behind Asher at the training grounds, my face heated up, he was perhaps someone who had laughed at me earlier in the day. I halted contemplating if I should go there or not and when I finally decided to walk away, he saw me. I could pretend I didn’t see him and walk away but he was already heading towards me with a box. I didn’t know his rank but his aura was soothing, he handed the box and left immediately without saying a word. He probably didn’t want to waste his breath on a girl who couldn’t shift. Upon getting to my room, the window I had found enticing in the morning came into view and it was even more enticing and so was the urge to disappear. I shook my head, why should I climb out through the window when that’s not how I came in? I would only leave exactly how I came- through the front door. I tossed the box and headed straight for the bathroom, I was tired, dirty and hungry. I haven’t eaten anything all day and I didn’t want to find the dining room myself at night and in place no one liked me. When I came out of the bathroom, Ari was standing awkwardly in the room, I frowned slightly. I didn’t say anything and walked straight to get my hair towel, she eventually spoke first after some time. “Are you alright?” her voice sharp to the ear, her attempt at making her voice less deep was most certainly a failure. “Are you asking if my bruised ego is back up or if my wound from the fall had healed?” I looked at her, seeing her blush with embarrassment. “I… I was surprised and didn’t mean to react like that.” She sounded sincere and I found myself believing her. She went on, “I came to apologize to you on behalf of my brother and I.” I laughed for a second before looking at her already red cheeks getting darker; it was an obvious and failed lie. There was no need for her to apologize on their behalf, I don’t think there was any need for an apology at all; I expected nothing else. I wanted to believe her and I did, I wasn’t comfortable as she stood there in embarrassment, regardless of her words being true; Ari has been wonderful to me and she deserved the same. The tough Ari who had shielded me initially from Louise came to mind, she probably didn’t mean to react like that; perhaps she was disappointed I didn’t tell her. Yes, it had to be so. “Do you want to help me braid my hair?” I asked quietly, a little embarrassed about my question. Ari’s face brightened up instantly as she came to my side. Ari combed through my hair gently, “I was really impressed with your fighting prowess back there, and you were really fast and agile. That makes it a surprise that you can’t…” her voice thinning out at the end, probably not wanting to annoy me. “That I can’t shift because everyone else can? It surprises me too,” I played with my hands, “I have always been strong and with the perfect training I got good, I could be mistaken for an Alpha with my strength.” I laughed in an attempt to ease the atmosphere and it worked, I couldn’t see her face but I knew she had relaxed. “Yeah, it was really cool how you made Louise bleed. It was nice to see,” her voice tingling with laughter. “And then when you ran out and didn’t come back for hours, we thought you ran away from the pack.” Trust me, it was my intention. “We? You and who?” I asked knowing fully well she might mention her brother even though it was a fat lie. “Asher. George and I, we went everywhere looking for you. George was the one who mind linked me and told me you were back here and I rushed over immediately.” Ari braided my hair down to the back. I didn’t want to confirm if Asher actually looked for me because I’m sure he wouldn’t move a muscle if I was found dead. “Who is George?” “Our beta, Silver pack beta. You probably saw him on your way back; he’s tall with dark hair, doesn’t talk much either.” She finished with one side of my hair and went to the other. The man she described; George sounded a lot like the man I met outside my room. “It’s my turn to get the house groceries tomorrow, do you want to come with me?” she was finally done with my braids and we sat facing each other now. “Really? Aren’t you worried I’ll use the chance to run away?” I teased her; I wouldn’t do something that’ll make her not trust me. After all, I do need someone on my side. Ari seemed to notice I was teasing her and she lightly flicked my forehead, “I have nothing to worry about ‘cause I know you wouldn’t dare.” I laughed slightly, but one thing still bothered me. Asher, I honestly do not care but I wanted to know about him and what he had to say about us or rather me; going outside. “What about Asher? Is he okay with this” I asked, pretending like I didn’t care about his whereabouts. “He’ll be fine, there’s nothing he can do anyway besides shout. That’s what he does best anyway.” We both laughed before the thought of Asher’s straight face came into my mind and that of him possibly shouting, it was hilarious and I laughed even harder. I hope all he does tomorrow is shout and nothing more.
