Chapter 7-----Forgetting Her Completely
As expected, Shawn didn't hesitate to rescue her. After pulling her ashore, Jasmine had already passed out.
Ruby, who couldn't swim either, watched helplessly as Shawn performed CPR on Jasmine, completely ignoring her. At that moment, her love for Shawn finally dissipated.
Ruby was eventually rescued by a passerby, while Shawn had already rushed Jasmine to the hospital.
He had forgotten about her, completely and utterly.
Ruby sat on the shore, her wet clothes clinging to her skin, shivering from the cold.
When the passerby offered to take her to the hospital, Ruby refused.
She returned home in a mess and took a hot shower.
Her phone lay beside her, but Shawn hadn't called even once.
Ruby felt that all the sincerity she had shown over the years had gone to waste.
At the hospital, Jasmine finally regained consciousness after emergency treatment.
Seeing her awake, Shawn quickly grabbed her hand. "How are you? Are you feeling better?"
"Shawn," Jasmine coughed weakly. "Did I worry you again?"
"How did you fall in the lake?"
"It's all my fault. I don't know if I said something to upset Ruby, so—"
"Ruby!"
At that moment, Shawn's mind finally flashed Ruby's image.
Before jumping into the water, he seemed to have vaguely seen Ruby's shadow as well.
"Did she also fall into the lake?"
"Yes," Jasmine nodded blankly. She had passed out just then and knew nothing. Judging by Shawn's expression, had he really forgotten about Ruby?
"It's okay, Shawn. Ruby can probably swim, right?"
"She can't!"
With that, Shawn left without looking back.
Jasmine's heart raced. She had just wanted to teach Ruby a lesson, not actually harm her.
But if something really happened to her, she wouldn't be able to live with herself.
On second thought, seeing her in danger, Shawn had completely forgotten about Ruby's existence. Didn't that prove that the most important person in his heart was still her?
A faint smile tugged at the corner of Jasmine's mouth. She felt that this test had been a success.
If Ruby didn't die, it would be better for her to know when to back off.
Shawn sped all the way, constantly calling Ruby's phone.
No one answered, and suddenly he was very afraid, afraid that she was dead, afraid that she would disappear from his life forever.
After parking the car, he didn't even wait for the elevator and ran upstairs directly.
Opening the door, he saw Ruby.
She was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, wiping her wet hair, perfectly fine.
Shawn froze in place, momentarily stunned.
"Ruby."
Hearing the movement behind her, Ruby turned around. When she saw Shawn, there was no ripple in her heart.
"Ruby!"
He rushed over and hugged her tightly.
Shawn held her so tightly, as if afraid that the person in front of him would disappear.
"Am I dreaming? You're okay, you're really okay."
"I'm fine. A passerby saved me."
Ruby pushed him away and sat down on the sofa.
Shawn looked at her cold demeanor and knew she was angry. He began to explain.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. Jasmine can't swim, and I thought she was dying, so I—"
Ruby nodded, her tone flat.
"I know, I don't blame you."
"Really?"
His heart skipped a beat, and Shawn didn't know how to describe his current feelings.
She was so understanding and generous, just not like the Ruby he used to know.
"Yeah, if there's nothing else, I'll blow-dry my hair."
She picked up the hairdryer and started drying her hair as if nothing had happened.
Probably feeling guilty, Shawn walked over and took the hairdryer from her, gently drying her hair.
Time seemed to stand still at that moment. Ruby glanced at the clock on the wall; it was five in the afternoon.
Tomorrow morning, she would leave this home and leave Shawn.
