Several months had passed since my arrival at Swan Lake. Life had settled into an almost tranquil routine, but I knew better than to let my guard down. Every day, I practiced my magic in secret, convinced that one day I would need it—not just for myself, but for my child. The connection I felt to my growing baby was unshakable, and I would do anything to protect it. The mysterious scent from the forest had not returned, though I sometimes wandered near the tree line, hoping for even a trace. It was silly, I knew, but it lingered in my thoughts like a half-remembered dream. I sat in my room nervously waiting for my guest to arrive. This was the first guest I was receiving since coming to Swan Lake and I was anxious about it going well. “The Luna of the Crescent Moon pack has arrived."
