The secrets of the shadow pack

Chapter 6

Riane

"Where is my father?" I ask an Omega when I walk into the pack house. "I believe he is in his office, young Alpha. He told us he had calls all day today, and he didn't want to be disturbed." I nod and make my way there. He sent me a text earlier, ordering me to come see him after school.

All I could think about today was this morning's incident. I am going to confront my father and demand he removes his mistress from our pack lands. My mother and sister do not deserve to be uncomfortable in their own home. He better figure something else out.

I knock and wait to be let inside. He gets b1tchy about doors and privacy. He hates it when anyone walks into his office. Last time he threw a man in the dungeons.

He doesn't answer, so I knock again. Maybe he is on a call, but I do not hear any noise coming from the other side. I don't feel or hear anything. I knock again, and when there is no answer, I push the door open. F*ck it, if he gets mad, he gets mad.

I gasp when I see my father's body on the floor.

I go to him and my wolf tells me he is already dead. I still check for a pulse. I link the Omega from earlier. "Who has been in dad's office today?"

"Young Alpha, I believe that only Miss Nancy and her Alpha have been there to see him. Miss Nancy brought him his lunch a little while ago." I nod. "He is dead. Gather all the Omegas and see if anyone saw or heard anything. If anyone knows anything, I need to know right away. Do you understand?" I cut the link before she responds. She gets the point.

"Mom," I try to link her, but there is no contact. My wolf whines and my heart sinks. "No, not my mother. Anyone but her."

"Riane, Raine," I head outside and find a frantic Jacob running towards me. "Raine, you need to go to the strawberry fields." The look he gives me, and the tears in his eyes tell me everything I need to know. "Rossy is there with your mom. She wouldn't leave her alone. She ordered me to come get you." He nods, and I know what he is telling me. He doesn't need to say the words. I mind link his father and the gamma to meet me out front of the pack house in 10.

I arrive at the strawberry fields. My sister and the highest priestess are holding mom. I get close enough to see that mom was brutally attacked. There is blood everywhere. F*ck. My sister's face breaks my heart into a million pieces. She is sobbing, and can't stop shaking.

"What happened here, Rossy?" my voice cracks. "Rosslyn and I were walking this way so she could get her strawberries, and we found the Luna in this state." Jacob tells me, because my sister clearly can not speak. "She is in shock" the highest priestess says. I bend down next to my sister and brush mom's hair back. "Here, let's get her to the Dr's, so they can check her," I pick her up gently. She has stab wounds all over her body.

As we arrive, I spot Alpha Saloman lingering nearby, talking to dad's mistress, and my blood boils.

"It was him. He did this. He k1lled my mom," Rosslyn shouts and rushes Alpha Saloman. She begins hitting his chest. He doesn't move to stop her. I link the Dr, who runs out and takes mom with him. I am surprised when Rossy strikes him across the face.

Even he looks shocked, but also impressed? I notice his wolf appear, and I step in, and I push Rossy behind me. "Don't even think about it," my wolf threatens him.

He puts his hands up. His eyes sparkling, "I can already tell you pups are stronger than your parents. Oh, and I didn't k1ll anyone," he says calmly. A little too calm.

"He did it, Raine. I know he did." she screams. My wolf believes his baby sister without a doubt, but there is no proof, and I know better than to go accusing someone.

"What the h3ll is going on here?" I demand. "I don't know what your sister is talking about. I just got back from a business meeting." He's lying. My wolf tells me, but I already know that. I nod so he thinks we are off his back. I signal for Jacob to take Rossy away and keep her busy.

"Raine, do not speak another word to this man. We need to have your Alpha ceremony as soon as possible. I do not trust this man. I am sure he is already planning to attack us. We need to meet about your parent's death. She mind linked me as she was taking her final breath. Your sister isn't fully wrong, but right now, we need to play our cards right. We can not k1ll him, as he is protected by the council. We need proof, and it would be my word against his. I won't win. We need to put our brains together, and keep Rossyln away from him. I do not like the way he keeps looking at her." Our Gamma tells our beta and I through the mind link.

"He is right, son. I also hate the way he keeps looking at Rosslyn. I will tell Jacob to stay close by at all times. Alpha, we need to have your ceremony. My mate is already setting everything up for the ceremony, and the pack mates are being instructed as we speak, but I think you need to deliver the news of your parent's death, especially, because people are going to start noticing if they haven't already." He is right. I send out a mind link to the whole pack.

"Everyone, listen up. I am only announcing this once. My parents, your Alpha and Luna have been murdered. Do not panic, I will be taking over today. Do not be scared. There is an active investigation happening. As of now, you are all ordered to stay inside until further notice. My Alpha ceremony will be in a couple of hours. No-one is to come out until then. This is not to punish anyone, but for your protection. We know the person or people responsible are not from our pack. Our own people would never commit a crime of this magnitude. This was the work of outsiders, and I am getting rid of them as I speak to you all. I promise you all my loyalty to the pack. Expect a better Alpha than the previous one you had. I will be a fair and generous Alpha. If anyone needs anything, do not hesitate to come to me. I will lead as one for all. I am no bigger than any of you. Always remember that. We are stronger together than apart. Always stick by your MidNight pack members. Do not trust or confide in anyone that is not one of us. I will keep my link open for anyone who needs it. Thank you my pack." The beta and Gamma look proud.

"Alpha, Saloman, as you can tell, my parents have been murdered in cold blood. I have a lot to do, so if you'd kindly take your pack member, and please leave my pack lands, I would really appreciate it." His eyes widen. "Are you kicking us out?" I nod. "You worked with my father, but he's dead now. You have no business left here." He shrugs. "I think otherwise," he tells me cockily. I know I am going to have to play a long game with this man. Especially because he thinks he is the tougher sh1t, stronger, and smarter than everyone else, but he has another thing coming. Rossy walks back over to me. She grabs my hand and squeezes. She looks at me and nods. It's as if she could read my mind. "Maybe we can meet about it at a later time," that seems to placate him. He nods and extends his hand for me to shake.

I shake it, and take this as engaging in risky and dangerous behavior, but if he murdered my parents, then I will k1ll him after taking his whole pack down. I vow to become one of the strongest Alphas in the kingdom. I will train really hard. I will not fold and be weak like my father was!

They finally leave, and my wolf is itching for a quick run. I need to get my mind right. "I need to run. I will meet you in my office in an hour. I want a detailed report of what happened and the Dr's reports for them both.

I shift and begin running. One by one, pack members join me. I thought I told them to stay inside. They are going to have to start listening once I officially become Alpha. Many begin mind linking amazing stories of my mother. I quickly realize these were all my mom's people. Her babies. Everyone loved my mother, and I feel all of their pain and sadness.

This was all dad's fault. He ruined his mate and got them k1lled my wolf tells me. I know he is right. I should have known something was up when that woman and her Alpha showed up and started demanding things.

I stand in front of everyone and howl a deep heartbreaking sound, letting everyone know that our Alpha and Luna are dead and gone. Everyone follows and howls. I am glad that Rossy won't be alone in her pain. I'm glad that my brother is a pup. He won't even remember any of this, and me. I'll be alright. I will carry my mother with me, always.

I hope my father is answering to the moon goddess herself.

Now to take over and make my mother and my siblings proud.
