Chapter 7- Alistar

1264 Words
This she-wolf, the one I saw yesterday, came out of nowhere and saved me. I guess I should thank my lucky stars. My legs were chewed up, but I could very possibly have been dead if she hadn’t come to my rescue. When she became injured, I needed to do my best to slow the bleeding and save her too. It’s like I was drawn by some force of nature, even though I know injured wolves are even more dangerous than usual. Somehow I knew she wouldn’t hurt me. I sure hope I’m right and it wasn’t just wishful thinking. As I sat there with pressure on her side, I talked in a low, soothing voice about anything and everything. In my mind I was trying to figure out how long I should wait before rushing for help. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get far with my ankle as it was. Before my eyes, the wolf became a beautiful, naked young woman. I gasped, trying to think if I hit my head at some point. This really was a wolf, I saw it fight. As I looked over at the male wolf she had been fighting, he was also a naked male laying in the grass. What the f**k?!?! I shook my head with my mouth and eyes open wide. This could not be happening! I looked back down at her and took the shirt off momentarily to look. The wound on her stomach was much less open than it appeared originally, and the blood flow had slowed substantially. I must have lost more blood than I realized to think these were wolves and now they are humans. Did somebody put drugs in my food so I’m tripping? A utility vehicle could be heard coming up the trail, thank The Creator! I stood up and waved to get their attention. It was Gannon driving and he was heading straight for me. I stumbled and almost fell, but managed to stay on my feet in a slightly ‘off kilter’ way. Gannon hopped out and ran over to me, taking in the scene. “Alistar, are you okay?” “Uh, I’m not sure. I was chewed on pretty badly, but I’ll live. It’s what I’m seeing that bothers me. I swear they are wolves. Please help her?” Gannon nods as he feels first for a pulse in her neck and then in the males neck. He closes the male’s eyes, makes contact with me, and says, “get in the front seat.” As I limp to the utility vehicle, Gannon grabs the naked female like it’s nothing, places her on the rear bench seat, and covers her with a blanket. He puts the vehicle in gear and we are off. I am beginning to feel tired, but know I need to hang on. Holding on to the handle above my head, gritting my teeth and wincing at the bumps as they jostle my injured leg, I turn toward Gannon and tell him, “she saved me. I think that wolf would have killed me if she hadn’t come to my rescue.” Gannon pats me on the shoulder with one hand and continues driving to the gait. Guards are there holding the gate open like they knew we were coming. Gannon drives right up to his attached garage, then drives inside where Susan and Travis are waiting with Dr. Hansen. Knowing we are now safe, my eyes become even heavier. I feel arms go around me and lift me off the seat, but I’m too tired to open my eyes. I hear voices that sound like they are in a tunnel, “lay them on the beds, and let’s get IVs started. I want them full bore for the first liter to help replace the blood they’ve lost. I thought there was a third?” “He didn’t make it. Alistar said Halyn came in and saved his life. I dare bet the male was the threat judging by the injuries and outcome. He was not from our pack” “Well, he is lucky she came when she did or he may have lost his leg. It’s badly chewed up, and I’ll need X-rays, but I think it’ll heal in time. Our biggest threat will be infection of course.” A female voice could then be heard, “is it bad enough he will change?” A sigh from the doctor, “I hate to say it, but it’s a good possibility. The bite wound is to the bone. We should know for sure based on how quickly or slowly he heals.” This is the last I hear as I drift off. I wonder, Halyn? Change? Change into what? I wake up hours later in my own bed with Dad at my bedside. “Hey champ, how ya feeling?” I shrug, unsure how I’m feeling yet. I feel loopy, like they must have given me some strong drugs. I try to sit up but Dad places his hand on my shoulder, “just relax. There will be no partying tonight.” I roll my eyes since I’m not a partier on a good day. Mom comes in with a glass of water and a sad smile aimed at me. She puts the straw near my mouth and I take several long drinks so my mouth doesn’t feel so dry. I pull away and she sets it on the nightstand before kissing my forehead. “Oh Alistar, I was so scared. Thank The Creator you’re okay.” I see Dad reach for her hand and give it a squeeze before saying, “Doctor Hansen said he would be okay. Alistar, we just need you to rest. I called your boss and told them you’d be out at least two weeks from work.” “What? Two weeks off work? I can’t miss two weeks,” I exclaim angrily. “Alistar, you were very lucky today. You could have died if not for the she-wolf that saved you. Two weeks is not that long, and you have a doctor’s excuse. Notice I said ‘at least two weeks’. It will depend how you heal. Here are a couple pain pills and a couple Paracetamol. We are to stay ahead of the pain the next few days. Take a good drink to wash them down.” I swallowed the pills and the rest of the water like a good son. I saw a urinal on my bedside and couldn’t help but feel embarrassed by the thought of using that instead of going to the bathroom. Mom pulls the covers up to my chin again, pushes my hair off my forehead and orders, “you rest now Al, that’s the best thing for you. Here is a walkie talkie in case you need anything. I love you son.” Another peck on the forehead and she is gone. I look down at the quilt and see my injured leg is elevated on pillows. There is a grey brace with black trim encasing my whole lower leg. I think it’s like a soft cast or removable immobilization type contraption. All I know from seeing the crutches leaning against the wall, is that I won’t be walking for a while. Oh well, like Dad said, I ‘could have died’. “Alright son, call for help if you need the restroom or anything else. No weight on that foot, so you’ll likely need help initially with the crutches. I love you and I’m grateful you’ll be okay. We will talk tomorrow.” Dad clicks off the light before turning to leave. “Dad, I love you too. Thank you.” I close my eyes, and within minutes I’m back to sleep.
