Forty-Four
Katty shoved Bea into the back seat.
"Mommy!" Bea screamed and pointed. "He's coming!"
"Bea. Get in your car seat! NOW!" Katty jumped into the car and slammed her foot in the car door. Her eyes blurred. The pain knocked her back.
Holding his bleeding stomach, Phil stumbled from the threshold.
She shut the door again and found the keys, only to drop them.
He tripped down the steps and landed on the ground next to the car.
"Mommy! He's coming! Mommy go go!" Bea shrieked in her ear.
"Bea, get in your seat! Now!"
Katty fumbled along the floor, found the keys and managed to shove the right one into the ignition and crank it over.
The engine sputtered to life.
As she slammed it into reverse, Phil grabbed the door handle.
