Forty-Seven Lex hid behind the entrance door in the ER hallway, waiting for his chance to rescue Phil. That buffoon deputy needed to go away. Somehow. He squeezed his arm against the gun holster inside his jacket. The deputy spoke into a radio. "Sheriff? Todd here. They're examining him now." Lex squinted. What a dweeb. The dork thought he'd contained Phil Daynton? "Good. Stay with him. Don't leave his side. I don't care what you have to see in that ER, ya hear me?" "Yes, Sir." The deputy pushed the door open and hesitated just inside. A nurse rushed past him, carrying bloody linens. She threw them in a laundry hamper just outside the room. He swallowed and paled. Ahh. Deputy Dork was squeamish. She turned to go back into the emergency room and grinned, holding up an emesis basin.
