the beginning

“Holy s**t. What the f**k is this?” As soon as we entered the room, Cain made an impression. He dumped his duffel bag on the floor with an irritated-looking expression and he took his phone from his pocket and rang our mom’s number. “Mom! Why is there another bed in our room? What the hell is this for? And why the hell is there other luggage? Who owns this?” Cain kept on ranting over the phone with our mom while I went to our small fridge to grab something to drink. We just got home from our class. Well, technically, not home but to our dorm rather. I was confused as well since when we entered our room, there was a new bed in the center of ours. Get me? Our beds were located at the edges of the room but now, there’s the new bed in the center where it should be an open space for ours. Someone organized our room because it’s now clean and neat. “I don’t know what you are talking about mom! This is our room!” I heard my twin brother yell again. He was still blabbing about and went outside the room. I jumped on my bed thinking who could be our new roommate. Yes, roommate. My brother is stupid to realize that but I wonder who could it be? I mean, the maximum person in each room is only two but now, there will be three living here. So, I am assuming that the school had a new transferee? Well, who could blame them, I mean, the school started for like two weeks now. Maybe he got delayed on his enrollment that’s why or maybe some all-boys school didn’t accept him? He must be rich because he got into this academy. My twin brother and I are now seniors in this high school and soon to be graduates. We are different from one another because he’s a sporty type of person while I’m into academics. If he won’t be able to graduate, then it’s his fault. He runs the sports while I run all the science clubs. I’m not saying that my brother is a dumb-ass dude but a lazy person rather. As I said, we’re both different but the same looks. Duh, we’re twins. That’s why. “Chance! What the f**k, I’ve been calling you! Mom wants to talk to you!” he yelled at me as he threw his phone to me. He was so pissed and I have no idea yet but I want to find out soon by talking to our mother. When I caught his phone, Cain immediately ran off the room leaving me behind. He can’t go outside the campus because it’s late. “Hi, mom.” I greeted her on the other line. She greeted me back and asked me if my brother and I are okay and as usual, I said yes. “Mom, why is there another bed in our room?” I ask her. She sighed and explained everything to me. She didn’t explain it well to my twin brother because he’s furious and he’s a short-tempered type of a guy. She explained it well and I listened carefully. I’m not against it and I agree with her. She explained that the son of her friend enrolled here and since there’s no room left that’s available because he’s a late enrollee, she offered that maybe he can dorm together with us. Plus, the room is spacious so he can still fit in here. Only for a year. I’m okay with it but my brother is kind of pissed off. Hmm, I'm sure it’ll pass. My mom and I bid goodbye to each other and I hung up. I placed my twin brother’s phone on the top of my nightstand as I continued to lay down on my bed. If he’s still not coming, I am going to sleep since I have school tomorrow and he had practice. The new kid will arrive here tomorrow and I wish that he’s smart like me as well so that we can study together. God, I can’t trust my brother with my academics. He sucks at math. He can’t even do multiplication. What the f**k. Before I close my eyes, I just realize that I have to do my homework for tomorrow. I guess I’ll be doing it since I’m productive. I got up from my bed again and went to my study table. I picked up my books and laptop and tried to research everything that I needed. While doing my homework, I heard the door open and I’m glad that my brother had calmed down. He hopped on his bed and covered his face with a pillow. “You okay now?” I asked him. He groaned, “No! Why would I be okay? We have a new roommate! A new kid!” “Relax. Mom said that he’s nice. Also, he’s quiet so we don’t have any problem with him,” “Well, he should be. If not, I will beat him that he won’t even see the light of the day,” I just let out a small laugh and shake my head. I continued my work and let him be pissed off in his bed. He will be okay. It will go when he meets the kid. I haven’t met him yet but based on what my mom talks about him, he must be nice because my mom likes him. I heard my brother snore and when I looked at the time, it was already midnight. It’s time for me to sleep now. I usually don’t sleep until dawn but this is just a small homework assignment and we don’t have a test so I will take a rest now. Morning arrived, I woke up because of my brother being so loud. He’s not ranting but he is running around while drinking his energy drink and putting on his shoes. Multi-tasking. I presume that he is late in his practice again since it is already 7 in the morning and that’s my cue to get ready. I sat on the edge of my bed as I watched my twin brother do whatever he was doing. With a granola bar in his mouth and a drink in his hand. He grabbed his bag beside his bed and his phone on top of the nightstand. “I’m off now,” he said. He didn’t wait for my response and immediately rushed to the door. I shook my head and decided to get ready for school. I don’t want to be late. Once I’m finished, I put on my uniform and pack my books and laptop. As I put on my wristwatch, I noticed that I only have 15 more minutes, yet I haven’t had my breakfast. I can skip that since I only have one class today and it’s only chemistry. After class, I can go and grab a meal. I sat on the edge of my bed when my gazes averted to the luggage of the new kid. Will I like him? I don’t socialize with others but I’m hoping that we both can vibe since we’ll be together in one room for the whole year. I closed the door behind me and walked to the elevator to the lobby of our dorm. Some of the students greeted me while I’m still in the lobby since we knew each other and we are in the same class as well. As I walked into our school, I entered the room and sat down in my seat, and waited for our professor to arrive. It was the same morning routine. He discusses his lessons, shows us examples, small activities and then ends of class. I usually go to the club after class but since we don’t have that much activity, I decided that I should just go back to my dorm and take a rest. My classmates asked me if I would be joining them but I said no and no more questions to ask. I returned to my room and changed into some comfortable clothing before I dug into our small pantry. I was scanning the fridge and to our pantry for something to eat when I heard someone knock on the door. Who could it be?
