Maya's POV:
I had to quit smoking because I was pregnant and that led to me stopping the act in general which was something I am regretting right now because I really needed a secret.
My phone started to ring just when I was about to yell out in frustration, so I resorted to cussing a bit before picking up the call. It was Lauren.
“Lauren,” I said with a fake cheery voice because I didn't need her proving around.
I was sure that Lauren knew about my hate for werewolves, but she had never mentioned or reacted to it.
“Where are you?” Lauren asked before laughing loudly at whatever someone said.
I didn't understand if I was the one with unnecessary issues or if she was just friendly with everyone.
“I'm taking a bit of fresh air before heading inside,” I said and unconsciously inhaled the breeze.
There was no way that I was going to tell her that I didn't like the fact that the private room we were in was filled with those mutts.
“Make it quick because their boss will soon be here,” she said, then ended the call immediately.
Their Alpha. I really wished they would just call him what he truly was, but that was the least of my issues.
The fact that I had to shake the man in question made my body grow cold. Did Selene carry the same hate I have towards those mutts? She seemed like an easygoing person that couldn't care less.
It wouldn't be a surprise if she didn't care at all, since she had not been raised to be a hunter, unlike me whose life revolved around training.
It was at moments like this that I wished I had officially become a hunter, but I knew that wasn't possible if my mother didn't change her attitude.
Was I going to actually quit and become a hunter? I couldn't give an answer to that which surprised me a bit, since I had the passion to annihilate the mutts.
My phone snapped me out of my thoughts and I didn't have to check before I figured that it was Lauren. The only reason that would make her call right now was that their Alpha was around.
I let out the air that I had trapped in my lungs before walking back inside, but not without cussing for not having a cigarette.
“Are you enjoying your time here?” The manager who had taken it upon himself earlier to show us our place asked me with a fake smile.
I gave him a replica of his smile before walking away with a nod. That was one thing about being rich that I've enjoyed ever since I was born.
“I really needed that,” I said with a fake smile as soon as the attendant sitting outside opened the door for me.
The silence that I was met with was a contrast to how I had left this place. The only reason a place would be like this after the appearance of an Alpha was if he was a scary one.
If only I knew that the silence would soon become the least of my problems…
I noticed that there were two extra people who were in the room and my eyes found the first person who was sitting close to Lauren.
There was something about how close they were seated that seemed suspicious to me and I would have loved to investigate it more if not for the intense eyes that I could feel on me.
“Miss Kanati,” a voice that seemed familiar yet foreign said.
I didn't have to think too much before I recalled the only person who had been capable of imprinting themselves on me with just one encounter, but it couldn't actually be-
I snapped my head in the direction of the Alpha and it was just as I suspected. A gasp left my mouth before I even realised it just as I stepped back in shock.
I had imagined different scenarios for meeting him, but I never expected shock to be my first reaction. The reaction that I imagined the most was ending his life before he stole my son from me.
“Do you know each other?” I heard Lauren ask but I was so out of it that I didn't bother answering her.
The last thing I wanted was for him to recognise me and if the fact that he had specifically called my name was just a coincidence, then I had obviously given it away.
“Ye-
“Not at all,” I cut him off and glared at him when he tilted his head to the side.
There was something about his expression that seemed hard to identify as I walked to my seat. I made sure to keep my eyes on him throughout and frowned a bit when he placed a hand on his lips.
The fact that he was hiding half of his face made it hard for me to know what was happening in his head. He soon made it easier when he finally removed his hands and the expression was…. amusement?
He was amused? This disgusting mutt was amused even though he managed to almost ruin my life.
I couldn't blame him though because he was oblivious to it and it had to stay that way. I looked away from him and almost flinched when I caught Mr. Shawn staring at me.
He blushed and looked away, which kind of irritated me because the last thing I wanted was the attention of another mutt.
The rest of the dinner happened in a blur and the only thing I could pick from it was that Lauren was mated to the mutts sitting next to her.
The information had me squirming in my seat because it made me uncomfortable. Lauren knew that I hated the werewolves, and she was mated to one, coupled with the fact that I was the only human here that didn't like these people.
I was definitely in the enemy's territory, so when the opportunity to run away presented itself, I excused myself while trying to ignore the stare from my son's father, whose name turned out to be Nicolas Gray.
“Did you enjoy our service?” The manager popped out of nowhere just to ask me that question.
I gave him a weird look because I felt like he was stalking me. I knew it wasn't that deep though, because he only wanted to know what to improve on so that we could visit again.
“Do you have a cigarette?” I asked him which seemed to have taken him aback.
Whatever he thought didn't matter though as long as I got the cancer sticks that I wanted. I muttered a quick ‘thank you’ when he handed me a pack and a lighter.
It took a lot for me to shove back the part of me that was yelling at me to fight against the temptation because I really needed this cigarette right now.
“You still haven't quit?”
I let out a groan of annoyance because I had not even taken a puff and why was he acting like we were familiar with each other?
I glared at him when he stood in front of me with a smile on his face. He still carried the same aura that made me let down my guard, but I wasn't going to be foolish again.
“Get lost,” I simply said before drawing from the stick in my hand.
I watched as his eyebrow twitched on his own which made me smirk. The only reason that would happen was if I managed to get under his skin.
“Did I perhaps offend you in any way?”
I stared at him for a good two minutes in disbelief. Never in my life did I think a mutt would be less of a scum than most wealthy men that I have encountered.
I let out a scoff before shaking my head. He could act all nice and all, but it wasn't going to change what he was. I wasn't the girl from that night that he easily got because she was vulnerable.
“Get lost,” I repeated because I honestly had nothing else to say.
“No,” he replied as if it was a request.
He was successfully getting on my nerves and I didn't want to get all emotional, so I caused the butt of my cigarette with a sigh.
I wasn't going to wait around to have a conversation with him just because of a mistake that occurred years ago.
“You're leaving?” he asked as if it wasn't obvious and I made sure not to reply.
What I never thought about was giving him enough space so that he couldn't reach out to me which was a stupid move on my part.
I took in a sharp breath when he held me gently on my wrist. The same feeling that clouded my judgment that night coursed through my veins at a speed that I couldn't fight.
I didn't have it in me to say anything when he came closer and I still didn't let out a sound when he held me by my waist and his eyes were trained on my lips.
He was closing in and I was just standing there… frozen. Why did he have so much control over me that I couldn't resist him?
That was something I was going to think about when I got home but for now, I just wanted his lips that were so moving closer with every second that passed, on mine already.
“You're really the one,” he muttered instead of kissing me and that was all I needed to snap out of it.
I pushed him away with the little strength that the attraction I felt to him had not snatched away.
“Stay away from me,” I yelled with a shaky voice and ran towards my car.
I watched him staring at my car and even though I knew that the windscreen was too dark for him to see through, I still felt like he could see me.
I let out a scream as I hit the steering wheel over and over again until I mistakenly honked which made him tilt his head in the same manner that he had done earlier.
Meeting him again made me realise something. I almost made the same mistake I made six years ago. I was still that stupid girl from years ago and he had figured that out with just one move.
In short, I was still a fool for the total stranger that was nothing but a lowly mutt.
