Maya's POV:
I think three days had passed since my mother brought the i***t that was obsessed with me to the extent of still marrying me even though I was carrying another man's child in my womb. If I was correct about the days, then it's been a day since the designer came to get my measurement.
I had willingly obeyed my mother when she told me to rise to get my measurements correctly and I didn't even say a word when she told the designer to make a bit of space for my stomach since I might start to show by the wedding period.
Was I irritated when the designer nodded excitedly? Yes, but I couldn't blame her for gaining out of my unfortunate situation.
I was also quiet when my mother told me that the only reason she agreed to my fiancé getting married to me was because she didn't want my womb getting destroyed.
In short, it's been three days since I last uttered a word to anyone and the wall became my television. It wasn't only because I was depressed but also because I was figuring out a way to get myself out of this situation.
I placed a hand on my stomach and smiled a bit to myself. I had come to accept that I had a child in me which was mine regardless of what species it would be, even though deep down, I was hoping it was going to be human.
“Your meal,” I heard Logan say before he opened the door.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes because his polite attitude didn't match his actions. I was a bit disappointed that it was hard to get to him, but I was already over it.
“Give her when she gets here,” Logan said before shutting the door behind him like I was supposed to understand what he meant immediately.
I frowned in confusion but didn't wait around to figure it out with my brain. I rushed to the tray he brought for me and prayed that he was actually trying to help me out even though it seemed far stretched.
The gasp that almost slipped out of my mouth was that of joy when I saw a key placed under the plate he had just brought. My vision became blurry as tears of joy filled my eyes.
I had no idea who Logan said was going to get the key, but that didn't mean I wasn't going to destroy his plan by trying to escape alone.
I still couldn't believe that I didn't have to continue the escape plan - which was the makeshift rope and knife I stole again - since I now had an easy way out.
…
Sitting around while waiting for your saviour wasn't a joke because I didn't even know how many hours exactly had passed, but whole hands were sweaty and clammy as I waited for the stranger.
My whole body tensed when there was a knock on the door and almost let out a sigh of disappointment just like the other times, but there was something different about this one; the person didn't make any move to open the door.
The knock came again so I scurried to the door because I had not eaten, and I was very weak. That wasn't going to be my excuse to delay my saviour and probably get her to be mad at me.
“Who's there?” I asked with a coarse voice that I almost didn't believe was mine.
“It's me,” a voice that seemed oddly familiar yet different said.
“Who?” I foolishly asked instead of passing the key through the little space, but the cautious part of me felt like this person could be from my mother.
I know that it sounds absurd, but I wouldn't be surprised if I found a hidden camera which my mother has been using to monitor me.
“Selene,” my saviour said, and I froze in shock as I tried to process what was happening.
I didn't want to wait around to ask my sister why she was helping me because my mother would definitely ask questions if she met my sister here.
The last thing I wanted was to put her in trouble when she was just trying to help her little sister who didn't really care about her.
With my hands that were shaking from adrenaline, I passed the key through the hole and let out a sigh of relief when she finally opened the door for me.
I had no idea what she and Logan had planned out but I didn't bother asking questions that I knew would satisfy my curiosity because, from the looks of it, it seemed like we couldn't talk around here.
Surprisingly, we didn't meet any servants on our way out and there was something about it that didn't sit well with me. I frowned and tried to brush it off, although it kept coming back.
“Where is everyone?” I finally asked her after hesitating several times.
“Logan slipped laxative into everyone's food,” Selene explained with a shy look, as if she felt guilty which she probably did.
Laxative wasn't a good thing, of course, but it was better than killing them off or something. The night breeze hit my skin so harshly that I couldn't stop my teeth from chattering.
“I should have brought a sweater for you,” my sister said, and gave me an apologetic look when she noticed my state.
I managed to shake my head and gave her a little smile because I wasn't sure if I was going to manage to let out a comprehensive statement.
“I told mother yesterday that my car spoilt, so Logan is meant to take it with him when he's leaving, so it won't be that suspicious,” she said, but it seemed like she was unsure of the last part.
Mother was going to be livid and would make sure to the bottom of this, so there was a possibility that Selene would get into trouble.
“I'm sorry,” I said just as she was about to shut the door.
She gave me a smile before her face became serious and she said, “Make sure you stay down until Logan passes the gate.”
I nodded and mentally noted what she just said. My body went stiff when she dropped something on my body, which turned out to be a phone, a place ticket and a bank card.
“Mother is definitely going to try and track you down, so use that phone and account. You're going to have more than enough to stay around until you get your results and fly out,” she said to me with a straight face while I was struggling to stop myself from being emotional.
I couldn't believe the person whom I didn't acknowledge was helping me so much without asking for anything in return.
“Thank you…big sis,” I said with a little smile that I found hard to keep because I was so close to crying.
She simply smiled and gave Logan, who was already here, a nod before walking out of the garage. I watched her go back into the house while Logan quietly started the car.
When we left the garage, I made sure to stay down and I remained like that throughout the drive, even after we were long past the gates.
“You can sit up now,” Logan said, but I still stayed down because I was too busy making a plan.
It wasn't an escape plan this time, but a plan on how to start a new life.
