Chapter 24: Affection

1228 Words

Liana's POV I didn’t know if I was dead. Honestly, that was my first thought. Not the bright light stuff. No tunnels. No angel choirs. Just this dull, weightless pressure behind my eyes, like I’d fallen asleep underwater and forgotten how to surface. It was quiet. Not peaceful. Just… hollow. Like someone turned the volume down on the whole world and left me in the silence with my own stupid thoughts. I couldn’t move. Couldn’t feel anything. Not even pain. Which was probably bad, right? I remember the sound—the scream, the brakes, the impact. I remember floating in the air like a bag of groceries someone let slip. I remember thinking, Wow, that’s me. That’s really me. Then black. Now this. And then, like a match strike in a pitch-dark room, I saw something. It flickered. A flash.
