Ashley pov:
The baby's crying pulled me out of my thoughts. I put the food I was eating aside and took the baby into my arms.
"Oh no... she pooped. What do I do? How do I clean her? What should I do first?"
I was so worried that, without thinking, I ran to my aunt's house.
"Aunt! Aunt!" I yelled.
Worried, she quickly came outside and asked, "Yes, baby, what happened?"
"I know... and I'm sorry for coming like this, but the baby pooped and I don't know what to do. So... um... please help me if you can."
Aunt let out a deep breath and said, "Thank God. Nothing serious happened. Of course, I'll help you and teach you. I forgot to tell you before. Luckily, I just got back from work. Did you eat anything? I'll make you dinner."
I cut her off, saying, "No, it's okay. I just ate dinner. Let's clean the baby first."
She nodded, and we headed back to our little home.
Thank God I have her by my side. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to do anything. I would fail from the very beginning. It's a good thing she helps me and teaches me.
Now I know how to clean the baby and even how to bathe her. But I still have so much more to learn. It's only the beginning.
After teaching me some important things I should have known about caring for a baby, Aunt left. I fed my little crybaby, and thankfully, she fell asleep on my lap. I carefully laid her on the bed, washed up, changed into my pajamas, and lay down beside her.
Ummm...
A loud noise. Who is crying? It's disturbing my sleep.
Unnn... please let me sleep a little longer. Stop the baby from crying...
Wait...
Baby crying?
I suddenly realized it was none other than my own baby.
Oh my God. Oh my God!
I don't even know how long she has been crying. What kind of sister am I?
Shit...
The milk bottle is empty too. I have to refill it.
"Baby, please. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm awake now. Please... please stop crying."
I quickly filled the milk bottle and rushed back to her. I took her into my arms and tried to feed her, but she refused to drink. She just kept crying.
I didn't know how to calm her down.
I started walking around the room. I tried singing many songs, like "Baby Shark," "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," "Baa Baa Black Sheep," and more, but nothing worked.
Then I remembered a song Mom used to sing to me. I decided to try it.
Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird...
It was like a miracle.
The song that had been my favorite helped calm my baby.
My little one...
Once she stopped crying, I fed her, and she fell asleep. I was so tired. I only remember lying down beside my little sister. After that, I don't know what happened.
Sleep took over me.
Bang! Bang!
A loud noise interrupted my sleep again, but this time it wasn't the baby crying. Someone was knocking on the door.
It seemed urgent.
I went to open it. Luckily, the baby was still asleep.
Rubbing my eyes, I opened the door and found two warriors standing in front of it.
"Yes?" I barely managed to say.
I was scared to see them at our house at this hour. What was happening?
It was still dark outside. I was pretty sure the sun hadn't risen yet.
When I looked more carefully, I saw my aunt and several other warriors standing a short distance away, watching us.
Wait...
What are they doing here at this hour?
What time is it now?
Am I missing something? Some rule?
A deep voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Do you know what time it is?" one of the warriors asked.
"No, sir. I haven't checked the time yet," I answered.
He raised an eyebrow at my silly response, but what could I do? I was just being honest.
The other warrior folded his arms and said rudely, "You are an Omega now. An Omega's duties start at 4:30 in the morning, and it is already 5:00. Yet you're still sleeping? If you want to live here, you must follow the rules. Every Omega has to finish their duties before 6:00. I'm warning you not to repeat this mistake. Otherwise, we will have to take action."
"I'm sorry. I didn't know. But I promise it won't happen again. Just give me a little time today. I'll get ready and join as soon as I've washed up."
The warriors left, along with the other Omegas who had been watching from a distance. Only Aunt stayed behind.
She looked worried.
"Ash, baby... what about the baby? How will you manage?"
I smiled.
I remembered seeing poor mothers working while carrying their babies. So I asked Aunt to help me tie my baby to my back.
After washing up, I packed some milk and her bottle into a bag. Then, with Aunt's help, I secured my baby to my back using a large piece of cloth.
"Ash," Aunt said, "I'm afraid you can't manage both at the same time. You're still a child. Give me the baby. I'll take care of her for you."
I smiled and shook my head.
I didn't want to burden her.
"No, Aunt. Thank you, but I can manage. Don't worry. I'll get used to it. Since this is going to be our daily routine, why not start today? Besides, I'm the one who took responsibility for her, so let me do it."
Knowing I was stubborn and wouldn't change my mind, she finally nodded.
I went to do my Omega duties.
I could feel many eyes on me, but I didn't care. As long as my little one was with me, safe and healthy, I was happy.
Still, I felt sorry for her.
She was only one day old. She needed complete rest, yet I was carrying her everywhere on my back because I had no other choice.
If I had another option, I would never bring her here.
This isn't easy for me either, but I have to stay strong for my little sister.
Not everyone was unkind.
Some Omegas, like Aunt, were very helpful. They taught me how to do things. Luckily, I'm a fast learner, so it wasn't difficult to remember what they taught me.
But some Omegas hated me because I had gone against their Alpha. Others still hated me simply because I was the Alpha's daughter.
They knew exactly what their Alpha had done to me, but they still had their own reasons for hating me.
Honestly, I didn't have time to waste on people who hated me.
I'd rather use that time for something important.
After finishing my Omega duties, I returned home and laid the baby on the bed.
It felt like such a relief.
Several parts of my body were aching, but I knew I'd be fine soon.
After taking a shower and getting ready for school, I made sure to fill her milk bottle.
That's when I realized the milk would run out soon.
What should I do?
How would I earn money?
I needed to talk to Aunt about it.
I had to get a job.
To buy the things we needed, I would need money. And to earn money, I would need a job.
Before leaving for school, I fed my little one and put her to sleep. I had already asked Aunt to take care of her until I came back, and she agreed.
I'm lucky to have someone like her.
Otherwise, I don't know how I would manage all of this.
Would I survive? Would I not?
I don't know.
But I'm so happy that I have the chance to return to school.
Even if I'm an Omega now, it's okay.
I'll study hard.
I know everything at school might be different from now on, but I hope my friends remain the same as they were before.
