"Almost a year has passed and we haven't even celebrated our monthsary," I said, tears sliding down my face.
"Why does everything happen to her? I wish it were me instead so she wouldn't have to suffer. I wish I were the one in her condition — the pain, the hurt — I can't accept this, I can't accept this. Jesus, please heal her. I know You are the great healer, so please, I'm begging you — even if it has to be me, just not her," I prayed as I was in church.
I remembered the commotion at the hospital when I was buying food for Auntie and Uncle — they said her condition got worse.
I was about to leave when my phone rang.
"Analyn?"
"Hello?"
"H-hello H-Henry?"
"Wait, are you crying?"
"Hello Analyn, why are you crying?"
"It’s K-Kylie."
"Ohh, what happened to her?" he asked, worried.
"Just — just come here."
"O-okay," I answered, my voice full of tears. I hurried out and got into my car, Lord, didn’t I ask before that if it had to be someone, let it be me instead...
I started the engine and almost crashed into other cars because I was driving so fast.
I ran into Kylie’s room, and when I opened the door there were a lot of people — Shaina, Mommy, Auntie and Uncle, almost everyone, and they all looked like they had been crying.
"W-what’s happening?" I asked them hoarsely.
They parted and I saw Kylie’s bed. She was covered with a white sheet.
I almost went numb at what I saw.
"N-no, no, this can’t be true, r-right?" I asked shakily. I hoped this wasn’t real, I hoped it wasn’t real.
They looked at me and turned toward where she lay, like they were indicating that it really had happened. I rushed forward and hugged her.
"Kylie, you won’t leave me, right?" I cried.
"Kylie, please wake up. Don’t do this," I said as I hugged her tightly and sobbed.
"I’ll marry you, p-please. We’ll have kids, we’ll live happily — p-please," I held her and cried. A moment later I heard the bathroom door open and then everyone suddenly laughed hysterically.
Not cries — laughter.
Damn, are they making fun of me?
"Wow Kylie, your boyfriend is really emotional."
"HAHAHA."
I pulled the sheet away and to my huge surprise what I’d been hugging was a stuffed toy — that’s why it felt soft. Damn, they really were playing with me.
I went straight to Kylie’s place. It’s better that she’s alive than what I was thinking earlier — even if they were laughing at me now.
> > > Kylie’s POV<<<
I was startled when Henry suddenly hugged me so tightly I could barely breathe.
"Oyyy Kylie’s suffocating, Henry!" Analyn shouted, I think she noticed.
When he broke away from hugging me I saw his face wet with tears.
"Is she crying?"
"I miss you," he said.
"I miss you too," I said and hugged him back.
"Yippeee we’re getting married!!!" everyone shouted and clapped.
So we laughed.
---
And now you’re married.
You will now kiss—
"Stop the wedding!" Henry and I turned to see who was stopping our wedding.
"Her!" we both said at the same time.
Henry was about to stand up but I held him back.
"I’ll do it, Henry."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. I’ll handle this so I can make up for everything she did to us."
"O-okay but I’ll follow you, alright?"
"Okay."
I went up to Jevelyn and tried to scold her but I couldn’t help but feel angry at her shamelessness for showing up.
Why did she even want to stop the wedding? I wondered.
"Because Henry is mine," she said.
"Aww... really?" I slapped her.
"Oops, maybe I overdid it," I said sarcastically. I knew lots of people were recording us right now and looking at where we were standing.
"H-How dare you," she was about to slap me back but Henry caught her hand.
"H-Henry?" I asked, worried.
"Try hurting Kylie again and I’ll have you killed," his face turned really dark.
"Let go of me, you’re hurting me!"
"You’ll be in more pain if you try anything else."
Soon after, people from the mental hospital arrived and arrested Jevelyn.
"Father, you may proceed. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time," Henry said, hugging me while wagging his eyebrows at me.
"Whooooo hoooo, long live the marriage!" people teased us.
---
You thought our story ended there? Ah ah ah you’re wrong.
Let’s check on my friends, starting with Analyn.
My gosh — I just found out she and Jake, Henry’s best friend, are together now.
And Shaina is still waiting for her forever, but it didn’t take long before she also found love. As for me — look, my belly is huge and I already have a child, a three-year-old little girl — and Henry quickly followed me.
"Wait, speaking of that, my stomach is cramping."
"Ouch ouch, I think I’m about to give birth."
"Henryyyyy!!!" I shouted.
He came to my side; he was still wearing a laundry costume with bubbles, holding a ladle in his right hand and looking disheveled.
(And a child too!)
Poor husband — ever since we had a kid he’s taken on everything. He doesn't want me moving around because he’s worried about what might happen to the baby. That’s just how he is... oh wait, I’ll tell you more later, my stomach really hurts.
"Ohh why?" he asked, puzzled.
"I think I’m about to give birth," I said, trying to breathe through it.
He looked at me and his face turned pale and cold.
"W-wait, just get help," he said in a panic.
"Hurry, I can’t, Henry, the baby is coming out," I said, almost about to cry.
"Okay, wait, they’re getting a car now," he said.
Soon the ambulance arrived. All I was told to do was inhale and exhale until we reached the hospital.
"You can do it, baby, cute, okay?" he encouraged me as we stood before the operating room.
"I’ll try," I said weakly.
---
"Push!" the doctor commanded.
"Ahhhhh," I screamed from the pain.
"There, we can see the baby's head," someone said.
"Push more."
"Ahhhhh!"
A few moments later a baby’s cry came from inside me.
"Congratulations, it’s a girl."
I started to cry and they placed the baby beside me.
"Hello baby girl, you’re so beautiful; you mostly took after your father," I joked to myself, crying with joy despite the pain.
I felt someone holding my hand.
"H-Henry, look at our child, she’s beautiful."
"Yes, she’s beautiful — she looks like me," he also cried as he lay on the other bed beside me because he lost consciousness from worry.
(She really gave birth, guys.)
I smacked him.
"Your saliva, she took after your looks," I teased.
"At least she got good looks," we laughed.
"I’ll never wish for anything else because I got you. I love you both so much," he kissed our foreheads, both mine and the baby’s.
"I love you too, Henry. I’ll never ask for anything else. I love you."
The End
Now, in life, there’s no such thing as luck or misfortune — it’s all strategy and people; it depends on how they think and how they run their own lives. We may not know if there is a forever, but what matters is that you loved each other and were loved in return. Be serious about each other, and if you trust each other, that’s when you’ll see what true love is. Also never forget the Divine; even if there’s no forever, love lives in the hearts of people and cannot be taken away. So to everyone who loves — don’t cheat, don’t deceive — I tell you, KARMA IS REAL. If you don’t want karma to come for you, you’ll be the one to regret it in the end.
