Chapter Thirty-Four
Alec didn’t shout or storm off. He only pulled far enough away to hide the proof that his body didn’t really care who I’d kissed as long as I was willing to let him keep touching me.
It seemed like an eternity had passed before he finally spoke.
“Why?”
“I needed his help getting some information. I had to convince him I was worth helping.”
Alec slid his hand out of my shirt. “Why didn’t you ask me?”
“Gideon’s dad is the Captain of the Outer Guard. His mom is a doctor. I knew if he tried hard enough, he’d be able to find what I needed.”
“So you gave him a kiss.” Alec’s jaw tensed.
“It was more than one kiss.” I eased my hands away from Alec’s pants. “But I didn’t let it go any further than it had to. I have to protect Mari. I didn’t have any other choice.”
