My phone was blaring in my ears. My sensory systems were not working together as my mind wanted me to wake up and my eyes were closed stubborn. There was no other time that I wanted to swing my phone across the room but phone was costly.
I relied on my hands to pick up the phone and placed it on my ears. "Grace!!", and now my ears were crying. The sudden shriek punched me to wake up. For a few seconds I couldn't comprehend my place and situation. I wanted that five minutes sleep.
Hoping that I wouldn't get another bloody ear I put my phone on speaker, far from my ears. "Hello", my voice came out rough with a gruntle when I shifted in the bed to sit up.
"We are supposed to be on my car to the festival", the eerie low noise sent chill through my spine. No.. No..
I looked at the time. Forget the five minutes I was an hour late. My friend, Eva Campbell aka the reason for my bloody ears went quiet on the other side. Which meant I am in deep trouble.
I stumbled to the bathroom pleading for my life to her. As my sweet and caring she tend to scare the s**t out of me when triggered. She trigger when I am late.
"I am really sorry, Ev. I just lost track of time and my medicines knocked me down", I reasoned hoping she would decide not to kill me today.
"It's supposed to be our day, Grace. We are supposed to be on the road with our breakfast", she whined. Ok her tone changed, that's a good sign.
"I am really sorry. I'll get ready in an hour", I said peeling my dress while brushing.
"One hour?!! Listen carefully I will be there in 30. You better bring your ass down by then or I am taking you naked or whatever position are you in there", I opened my mouth to protest and the line went dead.
My mind went blank. I looked in the mirror naked, still with the brush and I didn't want to begin with my hair. I snapped out of my daze quickly running through the bath and putting on the first dress I touched; jeans and green hoodie.
I ran down to see my family was doing there breakfast. I wasn't late in my family. I smiled to my self and grabbed the sandwich as soon as I saw Eva car parked.
"Have a good day honey", my mom waved from the kitchen followed by my dad. My sister Violet was in the room to the least. These we failed to acknowledge each other. Every attempt I made for the contact bumped straight into the wall. After some time I stopped.
"Have a nice day guys", I shouted behind me. I ran to her car only to standing there frowning at the car.
"Please tell the car is fine", I mocked her bumping my shoulder to her. Her lower lips pushed out to a cute pout. "I didn't think this will happen", so the car really held us today.
"I can ask for my dad's car", I said turning to my house.
"The problem isn't the car. The problem is in the car". What was the difference? I knit my eyebrows looking at her live she ate a bug and said it was delicious.
"Grace!", a hand pulled me from the car. I almost peed from shock. I hit his shoulder.
"You scared me", Jordan was smiling cheekily very content with the joke he pulled. The problem was in the car.
"What are you doing in the car?"
"What are you doing outside the car?", he repeated mocking my question. I scoffed and formed my hands into a fist and giving a scary look. At once it worked.
"Geez. I am coming with you", he said. My head whipped towards Eva glaring at her.
"He was in the yard", she said in a low voice. I particularly warned about Jordan's day activities and wanted us to go unnoticed. She did that job really well considering the fact he was sitting in the car we were supposed to go.
"Don't you have game coming up?", I asked opening the driver seat where he was seated only to be closed quickly.
"Yeah, but we can't leave our sweet sweet Grace to the town alone right?", here came the sister speech.
Let me explain, Jordan was my wingman, my brother and my bestfriend who lived across the street. When I said brother he took it very seriously to protect me from evil. If I tried to talk him out of this s**t now, he would start his sister from another mister to how I would feel sad if he said he felt lonely. Which I wouldn't.
Finally, I accepted my defeated and plopped on the seat. Until then I didn't realize I was making a scene in front of the silver eyed boy sitting next to Jordan, who also happened to be my crush.
James Lillard, the school crush and quarter back, who made turn every girl in his direction including mine. As hot and handsome, he was cute and caring which many didn't knew about except his three ex-girfriends and us. That brings to the point of him being single and now smiling at me through the mirror.
The first time I came to knew about Jamie I was resilient because Jordan was spending more time with him than me. But now I miss those days.
"Hi Grace", the voice made my stomach drop and heart rate to pick up, also the face that I was completely drooling and Jordan was obliviously munching.
"Hey Jamie", I said shyly and Eva elbowed me wiggling her eyebrows at me. I shook my head to shut her down and she started searching for something.
Two minutes into the silence, Eva started shouting, "Where is Double Chocolate Brownie?"
A hand from the front threw an empty wrapper and Jordan's hand were covered in chocolate. Boy, he wished to die early. Even I don't take a bite out of it.
"I didn't know Marie", that's it. Jordan was dying before twenty. The smack he earned was just the beginning of it. Two things that pissed off Eva, calling her middle, which for some reason she absolutely hates and eating her brownies.
This was going to be a long day.
