Chapter 18

♣ Marie Smith ♣ “The plane has landed.” Henry's stern tone cut through my sleep, snapping me out of my dream where I was so close to kissing him. Our lips only inches apart. But as I woke it, the content of the dream left my memory. It was only when my eyes opened that I realized my head was still resting on his shoulder, but his hand was no longer wrapped around me. That made me jerk my head up, embarrassment flowing through me. Oh geez, what on earth had I done. I'd literally told him all about my dad, and even my phobia. Could I be any dumber. But then it was how he'd reacted that possibly made me continue. It wasn't a reaction I'd expected from him. He'd been so soft and calm that for a moment, I forgot the stern version of him and saw a different man. The man I'd initially fallen for. Wait, “we've landed?” He didn't reply and just unfastened his seatbelt then left. Well, I guess that sweet man was gone and reality was back. My mind let out a sarcastic yay while I did the same, then followed behind him, a little annoyed at myself for being so vulnerable in front of him. Especially how his comfort had made me feel. Being in his arms had felt like the safest place in the world. It felt like a place I'd never want to get out of. But of course, this was something I'd never talk to him about. The peace his arms had given… Once the three of us (including Mrs Fila) were out of the plane, I realized that we had flown for eight hours, which meant I slept for eight entire hours. What? I would blame it on how comfortable his body was. It felt like the softest pillow one could ever fall asleep on. So no, it wasn't my fault one bit. My stomach growled a little, reminding me of the fact I hadn't had anything to eat. Sleeping for that long meant I hadn't had anything offered to me. Seriously? Once we stopped in front of a car, he turned to Mrs Fila. “You'll have to take another car today.” She nodded her understanding. “Yes sir.” Something arose in me again. Did that mean they sat together every time they went in a car? So she would sit beside him and smell that drawing cologne of his. Was she drawn by it? Oh that sly bi— Geez Marie, don't forget she's married. Not everyone is as shameless as you to be drawn to the cologne of a man that probably forgets about your existence very often. Ouch. But true. I needed to get a grip of myself and stay reminded that, not only was she married, but Henry was likely not the type to be unfaithful. She offered me a small smile as though aware of what was running through my thoughts, before heading to the car behind us. A bodyguard opened our car door, closing it once we were in. And as soon as we got on the road, the excited part of me grew at the thought of being in another country. Like I was in a place where people looked and spoke differently. A place where I'd rarely find someone that knew me. Which meant, there was a high possibility of making friends that wouldn't befriend me only because they assumed they could get to Henry through me. Woah. Throughout the drive, I kept glancing out the window, taking photos of any and everything that awed me. Questions filled my head, and since it was obvious Henry wouldn't answer them, I asked the driver instead. “What state are we in?” “We are in Bavaria, ma'am.” His accent proved he was a German man. That increased my excitement as I hadn't even realized our driver was German. The first German person I'd encounter in my life. Woah. An excited giggle escaped me while I turned back to the beautiful Bavaria State, where the road was extremely beautiful. There were modern buildings, shopping centers and residential areas around. It widened my smile so much, I feared my skin might tear. But that didn't stop the smile. “This place is beautiful.” I commented to no one specifically. “Yes ma'am, you should take a tour around the country,” the driver suggested, “I can sense you'll love it.” Even I could sense that also, but I nodded. “Thanks.” Then I added. “You know, since you're German, maybe you could give me a tour.” That thought made the excitement in me increase to the maximum. “You know ma'am—” “Enough.” Henry's tone was low, but so eerie, I found myself shutting up also. Seriously? When I glared at him, he didn't even turn to me, as his head stayed glued to whatever he did on that phone. What on earth was wrong with this dude. He certainly had a way of killing one's excitement. Maybe he just thought we were making noise and that irritated him. Stupid dude. With a huff, I moved my gaze back out the window till the car finally came to a halt in front of the Horsen Dasy Hotel. Derrick's hotel. This hotel was literally in every part of the world. A German guard sauntered towards us, opening the door for us which he closed once we were out. Mrs Fila's car came to a halt behind ours and she walked out of it, heading towards us. And so the three of us started towards the hotel with a few guards trailing behind us. As soon as we walked in, I was awed by the beauty. Though not as huge as the one in New York, it was still mouth watering. The entire time as we went to the receptionist, I was awed. Like, how could one place be so huge and beautiful. So mouthwatering. I'd been to his hotel once in a while during the past year, but not once had I ever not been awed by how great it was like this one. It was very huge. Maybe it was because it was in a new country and my brain just saw everything as beautiful. But whatever, we take whatever we get, right? (That is, if I understand what that means) I was snapped back to reality when Henry and Mrs Fila began moving, so I had to rush to catch up with them. Soon, we were in front of the transparent elevator, and although our hands worked perfectly well, a guard still pressed the button. So after a ding, the doors separated. Only the three of us went in, it made me wonder why the guards didn't follow. Maybe he didn't like them following him to his room. Mrs Fila pressed the last button so quickly, I was sure it was an instinct and something she was used to. After a moment of silence, the elevator dinged again, and the doors separated so we all walked out. The last floor certainly was beautiful. And there were few rooms on this floor. The three of us stopped at a door that read 10A. He retrieved a card that read 10B, then handed it to Mrs Fila. She collected it, bowing before leaving to the door beside his. He handed me the 10A card, which I accepted, surprised when I noticed his was also 10A. “Are we staying in the same room?” I asked in surprise. He stared down at me like I was stupid. “Did you seriously think otherwise?” What?! With all that'd happened today, all I wanted was distance between us. Not this. Again, what?
