Another annoying day with Henry.
I was going to a fancy party tomorrow, so I obviously had to dress my best because, obviously, I had to look wealthy.
I'd rummaged through my closet, searching for the right dress for such a party, but hadn't seen any.
Like, nothing that made sense.
To the point that I'd actually considered dressing in the same gown I'd worn for the first dinner party.
That would be dumb.
It would only entertain more tweets about a wealthy man's wife repeating cloth.
They might say Henry wasn't treating me well and so I had only a particular set of clothes as he never gave me money.
I couldn't do that to him, especially when he was trying to not let anyone be blamed as being the cause of our divorce.
Out of frustration, I slammed my closet shut.
Maybe I should just go shopping.
But then if I wanted to have done that, it would've been smart to have done it earlier rather than now when the stupid party was just tomorrow.
That made me groan in annoyance.
Why did I even have to attend a part I was certain would be as boring as ever.
What was Henry's problem? Couldn't he just go alone or maybe hire a female to follow him.
I knew that was dumb, but when annoyed, anything pops in your head.
The knock from the door startled me.
“Come in,” I turned to it as a maid walked in with a box in her hand.
My brows furrowed in confusion when she handed it to me. “What's this?”
She bowed a little, “Mr Smith asked me to give this to you ma'am.”
“He did?” Henry really sent me a— what was this again?
She nodded, as I walked to my bed, dropping the box on it.
I was really eager to know what was in it and why he would randomly send me a whatever this was so I quickly opened it.
And gosh, my eyes widened when I extracted the beautiful black dress from the box.
“He said you should wear this to the dinner party.” The maid explained.
I was so awed by the beauty, I wasn't even sure of what else to think. “This is beautiful.”
“Yes, and it'll suit your slender stature perfectly ma'am.” She said in a professional tone.
No way could I disagree with that. It was the most beautiful dress I'd ever seen with all the diamonds attached to it that made it spark under the light.
If I wore this, I'd glow.
But then…
“Wait,” I turned to her, “did he pick the clothes himself or did he send a maid to do that?”
“I don't know that ma'am, but I know he sent me to give it to you and to also help with your makeup and hair tomorrow.”
I turned back to the dress, still really awed by its beauty.
Could he really have handpicked it for me? Was that possible?
No, why on earth would he waste his time picking a cloth for me when he could send any maid to do just that.
As neatly as possible, I laid the dress on the bed, before my gaze caught more in the box.
A smaller box was inside.
Hmm.
I opened that, getting even more surprised as one of (if not) the most beautiful heels I'd ever sighted greeted me.
It was black, just like the color of the dress and was extremely perfect for me.
Not too high, but not too low either.
It'd help make my five foot seven self look way taller than I really should be.
A chuckle escaped my lips when I realized how expensive it obviously would be. “This is beautiful.”
“Yes ma'am.” It was obvious from the maid's tone that all she cared about was being professional.
Returning the shoes in their box, I dropped it beside the dress when I realized there was an even smaller box inside the box.
“This is really surprising,” I picked the box, opening it to reveal the most beautiful diamond earrings and necklace.
I gasp, noting that this diamond was as real as the sun.
"Oh my, this is a real diamond." I let out a chortle, staring at it in awe.
The necklace was beautiful, and with the dress, it'd certainly be a great combination that would suit me perfectly well.
“Wow, where is he?” I needed to really ask him about all this. It was way too much of a… gift?
Did Henry give me a gift?
It couldn't be one so I better not dream of such.
“He's in his office.” She replied, her stance emitting professional.
This girl probably went to college on how to act professional with all things.
I dropped the earring and necklace box beside the dress also, walking past her and out of the room as she trailed behind me.
After some walking and returning of greetings from workers, I was finally in front of his office door.
Weird of think he was actually home.
Lifting my hands to the door, I gave it a slight knock, and silence from his end greeted me.
So I just waited.
After a while of no reply, I thought to give it another knock, but before my fisted hand met with the door, his voice echoed from inside.
“Come in.”
What took him so long.
I internally huffed before pushing the door open, closing it behind me which stopped the female from entering.
That wasn't intentional, but who cares.
His office was just like every other home office, with its lack of windows and the only light from the ones attached to the roof.
There was a red couch, encircled around a black round glass table.
Bookshelves rested on the wall, filled with files and books that obviously were about his Henros company whatever.
As expected, his desk was filled with files and documents and then his laptop that he typing on.
“I received what you sent.” I stared at him though he didn't stop typing on the laptop and couldn't return my gaze.
Not that I expected him to.
It was still surprising enough that I seemed to have seen him more this week than I had in months.
“Yes, wear it for the dinner party tomorrow.” As always, he maintained that cold tone of his.
“But why did you choose something I should wear?” That was also another surprising thing.
He stopped typing, looking bored of my presence as always, “did you have something better to wear?”
I didn't, but that didn't mean it wasn't weird for him to randomly acknowledge my presence enough to buy something for me. “Still, it's just strange coming from you.”
“I only did it because I was certain you had nothing better to wear and I didn't want you to end up dressing in the same dress you'd worn the last time.”
Smart.
“Why do you seem really eager to head to this party?”
“Because it will help me a lot when it comes to my social status and our divorce not affecting either of us.”
I nodded, not understanding what he'd said, but also knowing he was tired of my presence and obviously wanted me to leave.
“Well, alright I'll wear it.”
He just nodded, continuing his typing on the laptop as I excused myself and walked out of the office.
Again, he was weird.
