Chapter 9

♣ Henry Smith ♣ I hadn't expected to see Marie on the couch with her head laid back as soon as I walked into the parlor. Why was she sleeping here instead of her room? My brows were drawn together at the sight. Hella, a maid of mine, rushed towards me, head bowed. “Why is she sleeping here?” My tone came out stern, though I hadn't intended for it to. That was already a part of me. “She seemed to have been waiting for your arrival sir.” She explained, head still bowed. Weird how they did that when I'd never told them to. They probably felt I'd get them fired if they didn't. “Why was she waiting for me?” Marie had never done that. Did she have something to say? She'd looked like she wanted to talk when I told her to go home alone earlier. Was it so important that she'd actually wait till so late It wasn't my fault I had come late. A lot of things had to be done at the party and I had to head to work to do some things before coming back. I didn't expect her to actually wait for me. “I don't know about that sir, I guess she probably has something to discuss with you.” Hella, whose head was still bowed, replied. “You can leave.” With that, she turned, scurrying out of sight. I headed towards Marie, stopping in front of her while she just slept. Her hair had been packed roughly to the back with a few strands escaping, falling over her face as she slept. I was eager to know what she wanted to say, but was it really worth waking her for? After a minute or two of contemplating, I came to the conclusion she'd tell me later. I mean, there were still tons of other times to talk. Just when I was about to turn, her eyelids separated, revealing the brown eyes she possessed. They widened when she noticed me, and an irritating squeak escaped her. Seriously? Did she seriously have to overreact? My brows pulled together, expressing my disapproval on the squeak as I watched her jump to her feet. “When did you arrive?” Her tone was surprise-filled “Why are you sleeping here?” I ignored her question, all the work I had to complete before going to bed running through my thoughts. “Oh I was waiting for you.” It was after I rolled my eyes that I realized I'd done that. But come on, obviously I knew she was waiting for me. Maybe I should've been more specific with my question. “Why were you waiting for me?” Her cheeks reddened, but she spoke, “I want to ask you about—” The ringing of my phone in the pocket of my pants cut her off. “One sec,” I reached for it, not surprised to see Mrs Fila, my secretary's name flashed on the screen. Probably to report the documents I'd sent her to go through. After a glance at Marie, I answered the call. “Hello.” “I've gotten the reports on the 2021 Henros launch planning,” she started, piquing my interest, because if there was something I needed to hear, it was that. “Wait a sec,” I turned to Marie whose brows were furrowed like she was already aware of what I was going to say. “I've got to take this call.” My feet stayed glued for a second more, a little hesitant, especially with her obviously angry expression. Mrs Fila coughed a little, snapping me back to her enough to make my feet move away from the steaming Marie. She could literally tell me anytime To my secretary, “I'm listening.” “Yes, so we were supposed to have a business deal with the Divan Trust Company.” Mrs Fila continued, seeming to be in business mode. “Yes, but didn't we already end up doing that relating to the escape products?” I opened the door to my office, closing it behind me once I was in. “Yes, but,” distant papers flipping could be heard from her line, “there seems to have been some mistake relating to the business deal.” That made a crease take form in between my brows. “Mistake?” One thing I hated in my business was mistakes. “Yes, and it seems like it might have an effect on the Henros product.” From her tone, I could make out it'd be a huge problem. “What do you mean?” Nothing must happen to the Henros product. It was the one thing I'd come up with that had flown around the world. She cleared her throat. “It seems like our product might be sued by their CEO.” “Why?” My blood boiled in annoyance. Being sued could cause a huge problem for us. “Because it seems like a mistake was made and the contract had said that the Divan Trust Company would actually end up battling with a share of the Henros product.” The frustration in me increased. “Who made such stupid mistake? Who was the f*****g person assigned to take over the contract?” “Mr Joe, sir.” I slammed my desk in annoyance, taking a seat on the chair. “Will this be a court case?” “I can't say yet, but there's a possibility.” That made me groan, “get our lawyer ready “ “Okay sir.”
