Chapter 2

My mother and father stayed in their places while the house fell quiet. My mom walks into the kitchen to start cooking dinner. The kitchen was 300 square feet. It has white with black granite countertop with redwood cabinets. The appliances were black, the stove top was a gas range with five burners, one which has a pot of stew on it, she quickly stirs the pot and reaches for a cup next to her. As she picks up a cup full of tea; she hears John sigh behind her. Then she hears a soft thud; she turns her head.  "Val, I hope that she will finally find her place, where she belongs." Stated my father who was sitting at the table working on a bridle, who looked to be in his fifties.     "John, I know her, even if she is not of our flesh and blood, I just hoped that we will be able to explain it to King Rodan if he ever asks about where she is from." My mother replied with a light sigh.      "If he doesn’t hang us first, Val, what would you do then?"     "John! How horrible are you! You know very well that we rescued Shade from a mad man who was trying to kill her! What if Shade was his daughter? We will take the box up to him and show him its contents! That’s what we will do!”     "Well I guess we need to wait and see then." John replied with a snort as he returns to braiding the bridle. Val turns and looks at her husband and smiles softly. "John we have to be by her side no matter what. We are going to tell the king and the queen what we have and tell them the truth!" John quickly looks up with anger in his eyes. "We can not let them not know what happened, I dont care what happens to me they need to know how their daughter was raised and she needs to know her birthright!" She stomps her foot and slams down the cup. She turns back towards the soups and roughly opens the lids and quickly stirs the soup.      "Val, do you think she would be back on that day, the day we found her?" John asked with a heavy heart.   She sets the lid back on the pot and she sets back to the counter and picks up the cup from the counter. She turns towards her husband, and leans against the counter.      “And why would you be asking that, my love?” Val asked trying to steady her voice.     “Because you know as well that Shade will be the best choice to be a royal successor, she has the makings of one. Val, I hope that she comes back for the horse we got her.”     “All over a horse, huh?” Val mutters under her breath, she looks at her husband and replied. “She will be back, you will see."
