Sireen’s POV I walk out of Lily’s room and gently close the door behind me, but not before dragging the curtains on either side of her bed open to let in some sunlight. Lily protested, of course, but I was in between listening and trying to get my heart to stop racing to even bother responding. As soon as I’m out, I let my head rest against the door and breathe in and out a couple of times. Deep deep breaths, to steady myself. When I finally feel like I can take three steps without staggering or tripping, I push myself off and search my brain for where the nurse said the wheelchair would be. “This is not bad,” I tell myself as I go out of Lily’s building through the back door.
