ABOUT LAST NIGHT

* SCOTT’S POV* I woke up to someone calling out my name nonstop. When I opened my eyes, it was Mrs Katherine hovering over my bed with a look of deep concern. “ Good morning, Master Scott. How are you feeling?” She asked. “ I’m fine... I guess.” I mumbled I was not fine. My head was pulsing with a headache, and my throat was dry and rough like sandpaper. I had to squint away from the blinding sunlight streaming through the window. I felt like I had been hit by a truck. “What time did I come in last night?” I asked, trying to remember what had happened yesterday “ I don’t really remember but someone in a red car dropped you, off” she stated. Everything came rushing back to me in an instant. The club. Keith was driving recklessly while I threw up from his window. The accident we had when we hit... “ You’re running late for school, Master Scott” Katherine cut in, dragging me from my thoughts. I checked the time. Oh s**t!! We had practice today and I was running late. I paced around the room, searching for my kit. Jumped into the shower and barely let the water touch me before I jumped out and threw on some clothes. My head was still pounding when I walked into school in the morning Practice was hell. My hangover was taking too long to pass and I had to do suicide drills. I was drenched in my own sweat, gulping Gatorade after Gatorade as I listened to the coach barking orders. I tried to take my mind off the accident but it was stuck at the corner of my mind like a stubborn stain. Refusing to be washed away by the bottles of Gatorade, floating above the rivulets of sweat. I could only remember fragments of whatever happened last night no matter how hard I tried. I never really saw the face of the person who was hit. Keith wouldn’t say a word to me, no matter how hard I tried. I was buried deep in my thoughts when I felt a ball hit the back of my head. I turned around in anger just to see Kim’s Ex-boyfriend, Jason standing before me. I looked around. The coach was gone and his assistant was busy on his phone. “ Hey asshole, you’ve got something you want to say to me?” he sneered, stepping closer. “ Yeah, stop acting like a child and focus on practice” I snapped He chuckled loudly, looking around “ You’ve got a mouth on you, you think you're tough huh?. He kept staring me down like he was looking for a fight. Everyone around us was acting like they were oblivious to what was going on. “ Do we have a problem?” “ Yes we do dipshit, you’ve been forcing yourself on my girlfriend” he hissed at me. “ I don’t remember trying to force myself on anyone, you must’ve got the wrong guy?”. “ Oh, so you’re trying to play dumb after embarrassing me in front of my girl?” His voice was cold. He kept coming closer, moving the ball in his hands. His eyes were glinting with hate. I could still feel my head throbbing and muscles aching from all that practice. A fight right now would certainly not go my way. “ So, what did I do exactly?. Embarrass you or force myself on your girl” I asked wearily, trying to nurse my headache. “ I just came to tell you, man. Stay away from Kim” he said, shrugging his shoulders “ Don’t say I did not warn you”. “ Well it’s a good thing you can’t tell me whom to stay away from, Jason” I replied, forcing a smile “ I’m going to hang out with Kim and anybody I want to and you’ll mind your damn business”. He shrugged again and walked away. I couldn’t help but wonder what he was up to as he walked into the locker room and slammed the door shut behind him. I waited patiently until I saw him come out before I dragged my feet towards the locker room. Already savouring the thought of a cold shower and getting into some dry clothes. “ Scott, wait up!!” I heard the coach call after me He was beaming with smiles when he walked up to me. “ How’re you getting along with the training here?” he asked as soon as he walked up to me. “ It’s cool, coach... It’s pretty standard.” “ Well there’s something I want to talk to you about, Scott” he said “ Sure, coach... Go ahead I’m all ears” I replied tentatively. “ I know you’re new around here but I’ve seen you’ve got potential.” “ Thank you, sir” I replied, cautious of his next words. “ I need you to focus on training harder cos you’ll be starting against Rose Hill High in our upcoming game” “ Thank you so much, it’s an honour” I blurted out happily. Finally, some good news to take my mind off the possible consequences of my own actions and the rantings of Kim’s boyfriend. “ You just keep it up, Scott” he replied, patting me on the back. I was almost skipping across the court in happiness when I saw her. She was sitting up there in the nosebleeds, AirPods in her ears and her eyes were closed. The air carried the sweet tone of her humming gently through the space like the melody of a peaceful offering. Her Golden curls sat pretty beside her perfectly round face as her full pink lips occasionally quivered. Just there.. Just then.. An excellent idea struck me out of the blue. I smiled mischievously at the thought of the results of my plans. I just couldn’t wait for the day to come. I was going to kill two birds with one stone.
