Chapter 69 - The Last Hope-1

703 Words

JJ I was tucking the last corner of Millie’s sheet beneath the mattress when Havoc called my name. “Living room, baby.” The softness in his voice made me smile before I could stop myself. For two days, I had been waiting for him to tell me when she was coming home. Every practical question, every glance into her freshly prepared room, every reminder to keep things good had made the promise feel closer. Maybe tonight he would finally give me a date. I set Millie’s stuffed rabbit against the pillow and hurried down the hall. Havoc stood near the couch with his cut draped over one arm. He looked calm, almost affectionate, and when I reached him, he hooked an arm around my waist and pulled me against his chest. “How’s the room?” he asked. “Ready. Mostly. I still need a few things.”
