“You know this is gonna be several sessions, right?” I asked while sketching sweeping blackwork shapes around the shoulder cap. “Like… a lot of hours.” “It ain’t my first rodeo, sweetheart. I’m aware.” The sweetheart should’ve annoyed me. Instead my stomach did that stupid little flutter thing again. I hated that. He stayed quiet for a minute while I worked before speaking again. “So are you from North Town?” “No. Smalltown originally. Right down the road.” “How’d you end up here?” I hesitated slightly. “That’s kind of a long story.” Nixx leaned back comfortably in the chair. “I’ve got nothing but time if you feel like telling it. But if you don’t want to, that’s fine too. I was just making conversation.” And somehow that was exactly why I answered. Because he wasn’t pushing.
