I looked at the screen for a long moment before answering.
-Who is this?
It was exactly the question I’d expected. Maybe even hoped for.
Not because it meant she trusted the message. Quite the opposite. It meant she’d stopped long enough to question it instead of immediately deleting it.
She could’ve blocked the number. Could’ve ignored it. Could’ve assumed it was spam and never given it another thought.
Instead, she’d asked a question.
Curiosity had beaten fear.
I rested my forearms across the handlebars and watched the blinking cursor for another second before typing.
-I meant it.
-I hope your day got a little better.
Then I hit send.
The three little dots appeared almost immediately.
Vanished.
