CHAPTER ONE: HOW IT ALL STARTED

759 Words
“I can’t do this,” I shook my head, refusing to meet his eyes. “If I accept you, I betray my clan.” My heart was pounding, my body shivering as if it knew the atrocity I was about to commit. “I, Freya Hunter of the Hunter Clan, reject you, Kian of Red Moon Pack, as my mate.” *** My dad drove to my new school; it was huge with the emblem of the school placed in front of the gate. He drove through the driveway before stopping at the front of a huge building with rows of stairs. “We are here; time to get off,” my dad announced with a small smile. I opened the car door and placed my foot on the ground. I instantly had goosebumps. I just knew my year was about to be eventful. I looked ahead and saw a lone figure. I couldn’t see his face clearly, but those piercing blue eyes made my heart jump. I climbed the steps, and five elders were waiting for me. Their hands folded behind their backs. I could feel that they were strong even though they were older. “Welcome to Skythia Academy; I’m Elder Gale. We hope your stay here is pleasant and trouble-free,” the old man with gray hair said to me. “You are the first hunter to be here, so we hope you abide by our rules and regulations. In skythia Academy we are strict with our rules,” a strict-looking middle-aged lady said, pushing her glasses further. I turned back to look at my dad, but he was no longer there. I stared hard at the huge doors in front of me and hardened myself. “This is Miss Wincroft; she will be your guide throughout your stay here,” Elder Gale introduced. “Please take her to the guest room, and please be quick as class is already in session.” Elder Gale instructed and left with the others, leaving me alone with Miss Wincroft. “After class, come see me and you will be assigned to a new dormitory”, She said looking at me one more time, her gaze sent a shiver to my soul. With a nod, Miss Wincroft sharply took me to the temporary room, where I dropped my bag on the bed and then followed her to the classroom. “Sorry for the interruption, Mrs. Cassie; we have a new student with us.” I felt stares at me, and my body tightened; a quick inhale and snort were heard. I entered the class with a nod from Miss Wincroft; I knew it was time for an introduction. “This is Freya Hunter, the first hunter ever to attend our academy. Please be civil,” Miss Wincroft said. “She smells like one; my wolf wants to tear her apart,” a lanky guy with long hair said, sniffing the air. “What is she doing here? They kill our kind for pleasure,” an angry snarl followed his words. “Your kind kill humans for food and fun. My kind protects and makes sure you stay in order,” I responded angrily. My eyes grew darker at their words. A series of angry snarls responded to my words, eyes turning yellow and red. I knew I had offended the pack, but I did not care. I felt a particular stare that made the hairs on my arm stand up. The glare was too much, and I turned my head to meet blue eyes, full lips, chiseled jaws. An inhumanly handsome boy sitting at the back of the class. As our eyes met, his nose flared, he stood up suddenly, and left the class. The class got so quiet because of this. “Kian, you can’t leave the class now; the class isn’t over yet,” said Mrs. Cassie, but no one replied. “Sorry, I will go check up on him,” a tall, handsome boy with a cheeky smile said. “It was nice meeting you, Freya,” he said to me before stepping out of the class. “Well, that was eventful; take a seat at the back, dear. Stop by my office after the class is over,” Miss Wincroft said, leaving the hall. I sat down at an empty seat at the back, dropping my bag on the floor beside me. I couldn’t pay attention throughout the class. I was thinking of the name Kian as I played and sounded it out.
