I was clumsy, and far too slow. There was no way I’d outrun him. My hooves kept stumbling over stupid limbs and rocks. I never fell, by some miracle of instincts, but the wolf was hot on my trail. Dodging between trees, I finally got a rhythm going and picked up a little bit of speed, but the wolf stayed right behind me, no matter what direction I went, or how hard I tried to add speed to my flight. Any second, he’d be nipping at my ankles. I screamed in frustration, but it came out like a trumpet, not at all what I would’ve expected my shifted form to sound like.
