Jennifer's POV The last of the dinner chaos had settled. The goodnights were said, and the house was quiet. Lucy followed me into my old bedroom, closing the door with a soft click. The moment it shut, the brave face I’d worn all evening crumbled. The dim light from the bedside lamp seemed to illuminate all the shadows I’d brought with me. We sat on the edge of the bed, the same one we’d spent a hundred sleepovers in, talking about boys and dreams.
