Pain and exhaustion

The stench of blood burns my nose, my heart is pacing, I am running as fast as my four legs can go, through the fighting. “Hayden! Hayden!” Where is he? I cannot find him.

“Malka, did you clear the village?”

“Yes father. Mother is with the women and children. The rest of the men are in route. Have you seen Hayden?” Before he can answer, a wolf clamps down on my hind leg waking me out of my dream. I wake up in my bed, my leg throbbing, I throw back my covers to examine my right leg to find a bite mark? Holy hell!

I am sorry dear.  that was my dream, I did not know it would affect you.

It is too late for a f*****g run, this day is going to suck.  I get up and get dressed for school.  Madison and Kaitlyn meet me in the foyer.

“Damn girl you look like s**t! Did you even pinch the flu”? I remind myself the lie I told them when I assumed, I would get some rest this weekend.

Sticking up my two middle fingers, “pinch these. I hope this week fly by; I plan to stay out of sight out of mind".

I see you like lying to yourself to go to sleep at night, so wake me when reality slaps you and I am needed.

Dormant, not dead my dear. I still hear all and know all.

‘Well do you know where the f**k Christina is?’

Now that I do not know, but if I do see her: I'll make sure to tear her throat out. Goodnight dear.

‘Psycho maybe?’

“Tra! Have you heard anything we've said?”

“Yes, how can I not Kaite, with your loud ass! No, nothing happened with Marcus other than he warned me to abide by him and his Queen Bitches rules".

“Not her rules, just mine". I do not know why, but something about that dominating voice goes straight to my lady bits. I could just turn around and say, “Okay big zaddy", but the b***h in me bows to no one. “And what rules are those? I need more clarification". Checking my surroundings, no one is in view, so I grin showing off my beautiful k9s.  This only antagonizes him, he steps closers, and stares over my shoulder.

“Hey hun, I see this a family issue we will see you later".

“p*****s", I say over my shoulder.

Marcus' eyes are glowing now.

 Walk away, do not do this.  We do not want to hurt you.

“What is she talking about?  Marcus you cannot be thinking about what she is implying. You hate me that much you would want to kill me or die trying? “

His chest is rapidly rising and falling, I do not know why but it feels like the air around him has shifted. With a grin, he calmly says, “Red, Run".

Malka takes over, I drop everything and take off to the woods. If she is running, something is wrong.

A legion has claimed him. I cannot sense who it is, it happened too fast and Without knowing who, we are not safe.  We must get to safety.

Cutting through trees, I jump over a log and shift mid air and the wind is knocked out of me as Marcus has grabbed me and is tackling me to the ground. I regain my balance and I am up on all four still sliding backwards, hackles up teeth bared. He circles me, still smiling.

 “My Queen, here we are.  Finally, I can talk to you how I want, say what I want, do what I want”

Who are you, and what do you want?

“I want you to feel the same pain and exhaustion that I have felt that every day for centuries since you jumped off that cliff.”

My body stiffened, I stopped breathing, this was not my reaction or heartbreak but Malka’s. Then with the deepest, most controlling voice he says, “SHIFT”.

WTF, my bones are breaking, my teeth are retracting. It is the most painful thing I have ever felt in my life. My first shift was not even this painful. It took several minutes for the shift to complete, when it was done, I was exhausted. I laid there naked, shivering, breathing hard, chest heaving, weak, trying to catch my breath. Marcus knelt beside me and whispered ever so gently in my ear, “See you later, My Queen, My Mate”; then he plants a gentle kiss on my forehead.
