Chapter Five The doctor’s house stood in resplendence, just like his son’s: beige brick walls, a frieze at the entrance decorated with sea waves and a crest in the centre, a brass handle and a nameplate emblazoned with ‘Dr George Erwin’. No mention of the wife. As far as Callan remembered, Melanie Erwin had hidden under a hat and a handkerchief when she’d attended her son’s trial. After punching out a quick text to Robert to get a list of firearms certificate holders in the area, Callan had driven from McCloughan’s country estate to this high-end community in Loch Fuar. The door opened before Callan could knock. Melanie’s cropped hair fell to her shoulders in sheets and matched her dark eyes. She blinked at Callan once, twice, and awareness dawned across her face. ‘What’s happened?’
