Chapter Nine Callan shoved his hands in his pockets and stared at the ground beneath his feet. He’d let Eloise Wagner take over the care of her friend and joined Mr Halston to find clues the thief left behind. Outside the back door, despite someone having locked it from the inside, they found the way the thief had left. And entered, perhaps. George Erwin, for all his smarts, had tucked a key in the flowerbed. Now they stood in the botanical paradise of Erwin’s back garden, which he clearly paid someone to tend. The gardener had done a great job, save for the two drag marks which plucked out fronds of grass and exposed black soil.
