Chapter Nineteen Aileen hefted the bag from the back seat and slammed the car door. The smell of warm bread and molten chocolate loomed over the street. Isla was baking. The intensity of the aroma doubled when the door to the bakery shut behind her. At 2 p.m., it wasn’t crowded yet. And Aileen planned to borrow some of her best friend’s scant time. Isla popped up from behind the counter and frowned at her. ‘Where have you been? I haven’t seen you for days.
